We have stayed in Ieper twice, for a total of 4 nights. We witnessed the Last Post ceremony each of those nights. It is a fitting tribute the missing soldiers of the BEF. It is an honor to participate as a witness to a ceremony that has been performed each night for more than 80 years.

it was very difficult to see the ceremony from where we were standing...i guess we should have arrived earlier to stake out a spot!

This is a moving and stoic tribute to the millions of men who lost their lives in the Great War. Not big or flashy, just deeply meant and thought provoking. The ceremony has been held at 8.00 pm promptly by volunteers from the local Fire Service since 1918 only missing four years when Hitler forbade the people of Ypres to participate during WW2. On liberation of Ypres by the Poles in WW2 the ceremony was immediately recommenced and has not been missed since. Every teenager should visit this at least once..... Lest we forget .....

I had no idea what to expect and was very moved by the whole evening organised by locals. It doesnt really matter who the invited guests are (British Army 1st night and then Australian representatives 2nd). It's the fact that we remember - get there early to get a good view on busy nights

I will never tire of being at the Menin Gate at 8pm. Ever. Absolutely amazing experience. I have been several times over the last 10 years and have always raved about it to my boyfriend. It was his first experience of it last month and he finally understands my love for Ypres now.
