Stayed in Ypres for 3 nights, went to the last post on all the evenings, each one was different, all of them lovely. Local firemen that play the last post.

Five mates from my grandfather’s battalion are listed on the Menin Gate so visiting was quite an emotional moment. The Last Post Ceremony is very poignant, made more so the night we visited by the heavy snow that was falling. Deservedly Number 2 attraction for visitors to Ieper.

I attended two ceremonies on two succesive nights in January 2013. Each night was a riveting emotional occasion. The wreath laying ceremony on the first night was dignified and entirely appropriate. The second night was no less impressive.

Superb and moving ceremony, sadly spoilt by rude French teenagers who giggled their way through the whole proceedings.

This was something that I have wanted to witness for most of my life and it didn't disappoint. The town basically comes to a stop every evening at 8 PM for the ceremony.
