Very moving - a must visit location but get there early as it gets busy and Last Post is played at 8pm.

“A victim of its own success??”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Having been to the Last Post ceremony on and off over the last 10 years, regretfully I have to agree with the comments that this ceremony is becoming another tourist attraction.

We were there last saturday and were concerned to walk past a number of parked up coaches on our way to the Menin Gate. When there we found far too many people to make this a thought provoking, personal ceremony. All were waving their mobiles around during the playing of the Last Post, with a good number chatting away throughout the ceremony.

A huge shame - the sheer number of people spolit the event - I dont now whether its like that very night- sadly it seems it might be. We shall now leave it to the group tours and pay our respects in one of the many small graveyards around Ypres.

“avoid busy days”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

check the lastpost website to see who's attending the 2000 ceremony. Weekends, particularly during school holidays, are very crowded and inevitably have a tourist feel. To experience the poignancy of what these proud Belgians have been doing every night for the last 84 years go on a wet Tuesday night in February.

“moving ceremony at the Menin Gate”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

Every night at eight, people gather under the Menin Gate (Menen Poort) to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during WWI. It is a very moving ceremony.
A must see (or rather 'attend') when visiting Ypres.
