“A fantastic place and great hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Having met old school buddy Roger again after 20yrs and finding out he ran this place I decided to take my partner and our friends over to visit Ypres as they have an interest in the historic town.
Roger and Muriel have the place just right for the well travelled visitor, clean spacious rooms and fantastic food .
We engaged Roger for a personal battlefield tour and thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge and passion for the subject , some of our history lessons must have paid off!!.
We will be making another trip this year and increasing our party and look forward to another great few days at Cavells

The weather was bitterly cold outside, but our rooms were toasty warm. The bed was the most comfortable I have slept in for some time, and the location so quiet, yet within walking distance of the Cloth Hall and Menin Gate. We enjoyed an English Breakfast, which boosted us to cope with the Minus 7C outside.
Roger and Muriel were the perfect hosts, and able to advise us on all aspects of our visit. Being English spoken is really helpful, but Muriel is from Ypres herself, with a proud family history in the city. We took a walking tour and a Battlefield tour with Roger, and he tailored the latter to my grandfather's experience as a soldier in the First World War. He took the time to research where exactly he may have been taken after being injured at Boesinghe, and we were able to see the old dressing station. He has a wealth of knowledge of those times.

Room Tip: Bedroom 3 has a balcony facing the garden, and gets the sun. Bedroom 1 may have a full ensuite.

Fantastic Bed and Breakfast, close to town centre and Menin Gate. Great hosts and very welcoming. Clean and comfortable rooms and brilliant town to be in. Breakfast was all you could ask for, full english for us but a good selection is available for the continental option, Will be staying there again.
Ypres is full of history and the people a very accomodating. Good food is to be had and you feel very safe.

....Because when it comes to reasonably priced, well located bed and breakfasts, it doesn't get much better than this. Roger and Muriel were fantastic hosts that were attentive yet gave us plenty of space, and the tour that Roger provided was informative and fulfilling. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy. The breakfast was a proper meal with plenty to power you through a cold Ypres day! We had a great time.

Friendly B&B just minutes away from the main square. Roger and Muriel are very welcoming and the room we had was very comfortable and spacious. An added bonus is free parking right outside. A good selection offered for breakfast and good recommendations for restaurants given.

Room Tip: The only en-suite room is on the ground floor.

Why stay in a B&B rather than a hotel ?
Stay at this B&B and you will discover why.
Personal and friendly hosts welcome you into their home, even their cat Nelson welcomes you.
Roger takes walking tours - Do It - he will personal the tour to your interests, take you to places and and tell you stories that you wont get on a "commercial" tour - and great value !
PS Muriel makes the worlds best Chocolate Mousse.
Cheers AB

Cavells is a gem of a B&B in Ypres, just a 10 minute stroll into the Grote Markt. It's spotlessly clean and Roger and Muriel Steward are lovely friendly - as is Nelson. Tea in the rooms is a welcome bonus. We had a walking tour of the town with Roger and it was fantastic, there's so much more to Ypres than the Menin Gate, which does take centre stage. Such a refreshing change from the usual visits, although if you are new to Flanders Roger will take you there too - the choice is yours and he is more than happy to share his knowledge and experience with you. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: All rooms are spotlessly clean and have shower. Don't forget to take some shower gel and shampoo...
