“A gem of a hotel with the warmest welcome.”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

This has to be one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in, and I have been to many! Situated in one of the main streets in Ypres (enter via the Lille Gate and it's opposite the church) it looks unpretentious, but is beautifully appointed. Welcomed with a drink of our choice we were shown to a typically 'boutique' room, with comfortable twin beds; called "Experiment" the room is themed around science, and very wittily too. Free mini-bar( when did you last see one of those?) and snacks, all the toiletries you could need. The hotel is within a 5 minute walk of the main square, but is quiet at night. The breakfast was embarrassing in its range and quantity and everything was home-made, of the best quality. We left absolutely determined that we would be returning and soon.

Having normally taken Trip Advisor reviews with a (very large) pinch of salt I booked this hotel hoping that the reviews were genuine.
The signs were good when I emailed the owner asking to change rooms(really liked the look of 'Glory' and it became available). She emailed straight back with a new booking confirmation along with offering to assist with booking a restaurant(which she did for us too).
It was a surprise trip for my partner and upon arrival at the hotel she just said 'wow, it's beautiful'.
We arrived and were offered a complimentary drink by the owner (Carine) and ended up chatting for ages about the hotel, her design ideas and local place of interest.
What a genuinely lovely lady who has a fantastic passion for her work. She added that personal touch that so many small hotels lack.

As for the hotel and our room - well it was beautifully decorated, imaginitively designed and absolutely spotless, a truly wonderful place to stay.
The double bath with TV and enormous power shower were fabulous!
The only comment I would have would be to have a proper double bed but other than that faultless.
I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly, the owner should rightly be proud of her hard work and customer service.
We will be coming back next year and will stay for a weekend to be able to see more of Ypres.
Thanks Carine!

Hello Paul!
Thank you very much for enjoying your stay here!
In fact, this reply is to let you and all review-readers know that the beds in the Wild, Glory , Top and Pottery room are single beds, attached to each other, with single sheets and single duvets. In this way it is possible to be very flexible and change them into a twin-room in a wink. But if you prefer a real double bed ( double mattress, double sheet, double duvet).... this is possible - just let me know!
The Atelier Room has a double bed, so if you would like twin beds in there, please ask when you book. And the Experiment Room is a REAL twin room. No double bed possible.
It was a good thing that you mentioned this... and that I could respond!
So I am already looking forward to seeing you again and making you even more happy with your stay in my cosy Main Street Hotel!
Don't forget to give my best regards to your lovely partner!
Carine

A wonderful find. Beautiful hotel where every last detail was covered and all aspects were of a very high standard. Breakfast was superb, freshly cooked items were presented with a smile.
A last minute break that was made extra special by staying at Main Street Hotel.

Believe the reviews. This place is one of those special places you want to tell everyone about. I cannot wait to return, from the other side of the world. Food, service, rooms. From the home-baked choc muffins as we checked in, to the amazing breakfast and free mini-bar. A fabulous mix of old-world charm and homeliness, with luxury fittings and gourmet meals. Fabulous!

This is just an amazing place to stay. My wife and I stayed here in Aug to visit the historical town of Ieper. The room design, bedding, bathroom, open mini-bar and facilities were just the best. And just when you think it can't get any better, the included breakfast and wonderful Belgium customer service all combine to make this the best small hotel I have ever stayed in. Thank you for a wonderful stay and such a memorable start to our holiday.

The Attention to detail was unbelievable, we stayed for 3 nights in early September, on arrival we were presented with a welcome drink and were made to feel very welcome.

We were in the top room and it was superb, large and comfortable, fitted out to a high specification.

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice

We would certainly recomend this hotel to anyone
