The hotel has had some great reviews for the rooms, the host and the breakfast and on all counts it did not disappoint. The lady running the hotel is amazingly heplful, has a very good sense of humour and is extremely welcoming. She has an amazing vision for the hotel and said she had spent 3 years prior to opening with the designs in her mind and spent that time finding exactly the right items to make it work. The result is someone who has a great eye finding the right place and spending the time and energy to come up with an interior designers dream. And the hotel that has resulted is simply amazing!

The general points of the hotel are this. It is not huge, having only 6 rooms, but it feels very comfortable and certainly not cramped at all. General features are as follows. Each room has a complimentary mini bar, free wi-fi (which is nice and quick) and there is also an honour bar downstairs for late arrivers to sit down in comfy chairs and enjoy a nice range of spirits. So far, so very good. A complimentary mini bar is such a nice touch and is a good example of the generosity of the hosts. Large flat screens are wall mounted in all rooms and a good range of digital satellite tv is on offer so all languages are catered for nicely. And toileteries are of a high quality, and the range of extra items is really high - I always like a shoe buffing kit and a disposable toothbrush and mini toothpaste. And they are all responsibly sourced too. Beds and linen in all the rooms were top quality, high thread count sheets and very welcoming matresses, and the whole group of us agreed this was the best nights sleep of the whole trip.

Oh and for coffee lovers each room has it's own Nespresso machine. I don't really like coffee that much but this was a great touch and I loved it - My java-loving friends were in heaven!

The rooms each have their own character. Our group had 3 of the 6 rooms so I can describe those in a bit of detail.

'Top' - If you like light and airy then 'Top' is great. On the top floor, opposite 'Wild'. It is a wonderfully light room and the bathroom is amazing. The bath is a deep, sit-in affair that easily fits two and has a flatscreen tv built into the wall. So a nice, long bath watching telly is definitely in order. There is also a separate rain shower, great for invigorating or relaxing, or sharing!

'Wild' - Top floor room opposite 'Top'. A wonderfully, dark, designed room based around a nature theme. A huge snake skeleton climbs down one wall and a coiled rope stand lamp sits in another. It feels exciting and if a room can be sexy then this is it! The bathroom is equally beautiful but the bath here is a very long and wide two person affair. Again a big flat screen is also built in at the end of the bath and the separate rain shower are featured. If you wanted a room for a romantic stay then this would certainly be the place to help set the mood :-).

'Glory' - First floor room above the lounge/reception. A huge room that is again darker in decor with some beautiful bedside lamps/tables. The furnishings of dark woods are stunning and the bathroom is also the same design as 'Wild', having that wonderfully decadent two-person bath with the tv in there and the separate shower too.

So accomodation is faultless and is to my mind exactly what a 'boutique designer' hotel should be. Individually designed rooms with lots of character but above all luxurious and comfortable.

The final icing on the cake is the breakfast. Very good range of local foods, served in a nice and light dining room. The cold buffet in the next room has a great range of cereals, breads, cheeses, meats, fruits, yoghurts and everything you could expect. The hot food is freshly prepared and we had a range of the menu. Fresh belgian waffles (the girls said they were lilght and amazing). Eggs, bacon and mushrooms that were perfect. I had a whole black pudding served with onions and apple and it was really, really good. So top marks for breakfast too.

You can tell this place has blown me away. Ypres is a lovely town and worth visiting for more than just a stop over somewhere or as part of the WW1 battlefield circuit. I was in two minds about writing this because I want to go back to this hotel and I fear once word gets around it will be impossible to get in, but I really can't help myself. If you want to see how small hotels really should be done then find a reason to go to Ypres, or even just go to stop here, and you will not be disappointed. Best small hotel I have ever stayed in, without a doubt!

Room Tip: Wild and Glory get my choice if you like darker, sexier rooms. All are quiet and well equipped.

Reading the previous reviews, we agree with others that it's impossible to fault this hotel. We like Ieper very much as a place to stay within an hour's drive of the Channel Tunnel and the Main Street Hotel is now definitely our favourite, although we feel that it's more of a boutique B&B.

Probably the easiest way to find it is to turn off the Ieper ring road at the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and drive up the Rijselsestraat (a two-way street). The hotel is on the left, just before reaching St Peter's Church on the right. We parked opposite the church as the free parking was full, but parking was not expensive - two or three euros. If you continue up the Rijselsestraat the main square (Flanders Fields Museum, restaurants, etc.) is only a few minutes away. The Menin Gate can be reached either by this route or by walking down to the Lille Gate and taking the ramparts walk around the town to the gate. At the Lille Gate there is an excellent small museum (the Ramparts War Museum) in the grounds of a pub, as well as the Ramparts Cemetery which overlooks the town moat.

We stayed in the ground floor Atelier room with the trompe l'oeil corrugated iron wall (fascinating), beams, spotlights and "cobwebs". Bed was extremely comfortable; lovely quality bedding; very quiet at night because the room is at the back of the building (could just hear the church bells in the morning). Large and luxurious bathroom with enormous whirlpool bath and rain shower; high quality toiletries; robes and slippers. Both bedroom and bathroom cosy and warm which was a necessity given that the temperature outside was about ten degrees with a strong wind. The cupboard in the bedroom contained all sorts of treats in the mini-bar (free!) so we couldn't resist the champagne to sample in the whirlpool bath ...

Breakfast superb - particular likes were the scrambled eggs with salmon; fruit salad; marmalade; butter beautifully presented (not in foil packets ...); coffee cups with a central hole in the saucers.

We paid 15 euros each for breakfast and 169 euros for the room; were quite happy with this because it was worth it!

Everything is carefully chosen for quality; great attention has been paid to detail; there are lots of quirky things to enjoy, and the hotel is spotless throughout. Thank you, Carine, for all your hard work, and for an excellent experience - hope to see you again before too long!

I'm writing this review from the hotel. This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Forget the pools and the gyms required to earn the 4th star. This is about world class personal service and quirkiness that I can't wait to come back to. Checkin process is a drink in the most beautiful reception room and home made chocolate cakes. My room is amazing as is the bathroom... I'll stop now, suffice to say you have to try it..

Very stylish. Good bedroom and beautiful bathroom (with its own TV!). Comfortable bed and bedding. Excellent breakfast. Generous extras such as minibar. Only 6 bedrooms, with quite large elegant entrance hall/sitting room. Not quite a full hotel eg no 24hr service, no meals other than breakfast, but seen as a luxurious and stylish bed and breakfast this is pretty well perfect.
Five minutes walk from city square, and 10 minutes to Menin Gate. Easy drive from Calais, surrounded by WW1 sites and 40 minutes to Bruges.
Karin, the owner, is very helpful and welcoming.
Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: The stairs are very steep, so request a ground floor room if you are not very nimble.

From the moment that we arrived at Main Street Hotel to the time we left everything was just about perfect. Carine is a really good host and a bit of a laugh as well. The rooms were unique. What a lot of time, effort and money has been put into this place. It cost around 140 euros a night but it was worth it. Breakfast was an extra 15 euros a day and was very good. Our room (Glory) had a double size bath with television. The tiling was fantastic (although not our choice of colouor scheme) and high quality. Great attention to detail and quality fixtures and fittings. Although this hotel is not cheap I can say it the first place that I have ever stayed where you had the impression that the owners wanted you to enjoy yourselves rather than make money! From the free drink on arrival to the free mini bar for the duration of our stay (3 days) - restocked every day. I've never heard of that anywhere. If you want something cheaper then there are options. If you want a bit of luxury, just do it!

Room Tip: The top room has no wardrobes and was a bit smaller than the glory room. The church bells at the front of the hotel start at 7am.
