Alliance Hotel Ieper Centrum
Ranked #39 of 43 Ieper (Ypres) B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 9, 2013

This hotel is centrally located near to the town square and is ideally placed if you want to visit the Menin Gate. Our room was a good size and spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortably enough for me, but this is such a personal thing. The hotel has a narrow court yard and some of the rooms are off of that. Consequently the light into those rooms may be limited and/or have no view. This did not bother us as we were only there for one night.

Xavier could not have been more helpful. He made several phone calls to try and reserve a table in nearby restaurants and allowed our group to park our 3 motorcycles in his garage. For any car drivers reading this is not to say this is a bikers' haunt. There is pay and display parking outside the hotel, which would be okay to use while you check in/out. i would then use the free parking nearby. There is parking for the disabled outside as well.

We stayed for one night and were delighted with the hotel and staff that we met. Check-in is from mid afternoon. We were shown on a map where to park the car for free about five minutes walk away. Central Ypres is all meters and short-stay limits.

Our room was on the ground floor and spacious. It did seem to be adapted fore disabled use. The bathroom alone was larger than many whole rooms that I've stayed in. Great shower. The bed was firmer than I maybe prefer but quiet and undisturbed.

The breakfast room has a marble staircase from the rooms above. Breakfast was the usual meats, cheeses, cereals...

The hotel is well-located just off the main square and an easy walk to the Menin Gate.

Overall, a quality hotel at a reasonable price and much, much better than we were expecting for a city-centre hotel at that price. Definitely on our recommended list.

we stayed here for 4 nights so we could visit the battlefield sites, room was clean and spacious shame there was no tea & coffee facility in the room though, you have to wait for breakfast. the pillows were rock hard so sleeping was not that comfortable as had no pillow no other options. owner was friendly and an advantage to park the motorbike in his secure garage. big sign saying no snacking have to buy from hotel..err I dont think so, whats the harm in purchasing a bag of crisps/sweets which we did. nice and centralised though 5 mins from the menin gate, awesome museum, lovely cafes around the square. breakfast good and plentiful. small shop called over the top tours by the menin gate were fantastic we had a morning tour with Andre very reasonably priced and he was very interesting and accommodating would deffo recommend. lovely patio area as well.

This hotel was central to Ypres .Although parking was a way to walk it was free and the owner was helpful with his directions. The hotel its self was OK ish although the room we had was weird has it had double doors like a prison cell with no natural light through the windows.
There was fluff behind the bed so not the best of cleaning .
The breakfast was very basic and although we wanted a drink in the small bar it was hard to find someone to serve.
The owner was helpful enough though and it was so central to where everything was.

We booked this Hotel on spec. It turned out to be a good choice. The Hotel is spotlessly clean, our room was a little small but had a good sized double bed and its own on suite bathroom. The breakfast was plentiful and self service. The Hotel staff and owner were very friendly and able to offer advice on what to see and where to go. This Hotel is a great base for the battlefield sites and Menin Gate.
Lots of great restaurants around the square.
We were very lucky as on a Monday and Tuesday there is a FREE music event behind the main hall. We got to see The Levellers which added to the trip.
We will be definitely be back.
Oh forgot to say that the main reason we booked the hotel was because of the offer of free motorcycle parking for our Honda pan European, in the owners secure on site Garage. So if you visit by Motorcycle ask in advance if he can accommodate your bike.
If you travel by car there is free parking by the church opposite the Novotel.

Room Tip: If you are a non smoker see if you can get a room in the main hotel rather than the new annex wing

We visit Ieper most years whilst touring the battlefields and this hotel will now be our HQ in Belgium.
The rooms were beautiful, opening up on to a terrace with table and chairs. And the staff were superb, nothing was too much trouble. We were just far enough away from the main square to not hear the fair, but near enough to sample the bars and restaurants. Reasonably priced for Ieper, on street parking 10 Euros for a day and free on Sundays. Free parking about 10 minutes walk from the hotel outside the city walls but very doable.

Room Tip: Ask for a downstairs room as the marble stairs are a bit quirky and some people may find them diffic...
