“Go to Ostend!”

Ignore the review by anthroopos who visited Ostend in August 2013!! I have been going to Ostend on holiday every year since 1993. It really is not "very, very noisy with sirens going off constantly". Also, in the 20 years I have been going there I have literally not once seen anybody being robbed or even any drunken lager louts. Me and the friends that I go with usually leave the bars between 2am and 3am. The apartment is so close to the town centre so we just walk and we've never seen any trouble.
There are so many bars to choose from in Ostend with something to suit everybody. There aren't too many clubs but that's not a problem to me as I prefer bars.
There are plenty of shops too. Some expensive especially along Adolf Buylstraat, others not so expensive like the C&A. However, don't be expecting big city shopping like London or Paris.
The town centre is compact but certainly not what some describe as a concrete jungle. Everything in the town centre is within walking distance.

Lots of new buildings especially apartments these seem to dominate the city, nothing of any historical interest, but plenty of small shops and restaurants.
End to end of the promenade there are places to eat and drink and many more on the side streets.
Thursday there is a large market situated in the centre of town which is fantastic.
Not far from the promenade is the casino and opposite that is the tourist information building this can be very useful.
The harbour is beautiful and the Mercator(ex naval training ship) is situated there, it is now a floating museum and is well worth a look.
Across from the harbour is the Church of St Peter and Paul.
Trams can be an easy way of getting around or you could hire a bicycle.

Very nice town, so charming! Lots and lots of restaurants, shops and fresh fish stands....be warned, dont eat the prepared fish out in the open unless you want to have the seagulls snatch it up. They hovered there just waiting.

Other than the two ships, the Mercator and Amandine, nothing exiting at all. The town is a concrete jungle

It now hosts the cargo ships!
But it is still worth going when a ship enters the port!!!
See an example of fantastic navigation!!!
