We have recently returned from an organised coach trip and stayed for 2 nights at this hotel. Having read comments on here before we went,we went with an open mind. we asked for a twin room and got a double room with two single beds pushed together, the floors were stained and sticky, bath towels were shredded, their were no tea or coffee facilities in the room and you could only have it at breakfast. the shower only gave water like you are running a tap so very difficult to have a shower and it also over flowed. the good points are there are some nice places to eat nearby and the beach is only a 2 minute walk.

I had taken the liberty of emailing the hotel prior to stopping over at the hotel. As a two star we were ready for anything especially after reading other comments on this site. Must say on arrival the group of 36 people were dealt with in a speedy fashion in room allotment and keys. Then to the evening meal, not the hotels fault that the group attending were three hours late, so taking that into consideration, the soup was not recognisable and the fish and chips were, erm, the chips were hot, so much so the chips were spending all the time on the plate heating the cold fish, though lovely fillet, cold. So to bed, a room definatly for sleeping in only, window filthy dirty on the outside, however new paving is being laid outside. Dont bother with the shower room, definatly in need of TLC, shower tree past it, shower past it, and shaving mirror missing. Second nights meal better, hotter this time, Tomato soup, very thin, unrecognisible meat, tasty and identified later as port, tasty but not sure what of. Beer good, tokens used from the hotel, only paid extra for two rounds over three days. Smoking is a problem in the attached area, joined by thin partition.

Room Tip: Only accept room 24 if they have decorated and updated from June 2012

We have recently returned from an organised coach trip and stayed for 2 nights at this hotel. Having read comments on here before we went,we went with an open mind, but went armed with disinfectant, cloths etc...on arrival, our worse nightmares were realised. The hotel was dark and smelt of cigarette smoke. Especially as the bar tender stood under the NO SMOKING sign with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and smoke bellowing over the area, including the slices of lemon and oranges-made sure that didnt have a slice in my drink.....the staff were unpleasant and one of the staff was very scruffy/dirty looking with greasy hair and he stank of stale smoke. The bar was loud and cramped and the food served was stone cold. We dared to mention this and was greeted with hostility from the staff serving in the cramped restaurant area. The room stank of drains and the shower was dirty. Even though we knew it was only 2*, it costs nothing to be pleasant. The vegetarian option provided was croquette potatoes and peas!!!!! A family member rang to speak to us in an emergency but the hotel refused to put them through. All in all-not a pleasant experience and we will be contacting the coach company using this hotel, as we feel they need to know that it is an unacceptable option.

We stayed as a group of 7 for 3 nights for the kite festival. The accommodation was arranged by the organisers.

It was disappointing to find that of the 3 double bedrooms we'd asked for, we had one double and 2 twins. The beds had been made up separately and then pushed together, not ideal for married couples. The bedding was clean and good quality. The bathroom is basic, with one non moving container of wash for all purposes outside the shower area, so wet floors if you haven't brought your own stuff. The towels were very threadbare. The room itself was tired, could have done with a new coat of paint and a bit of maintenance. The breakfast was adequate, continental buffet in a small area beyond the back of the restaurant, but the coffee machine is pushed to it's limits when the hotel is full, there is always a queue which gets in the way of everything else. The homemade rye bread was delicious though. The location is good, very close to the beach and a 5 minute walk to the festival (or 10 minutes if you're carrying a lot of kite bags!). Plenty of restaurants close by as well.
From my point of view though, the bar is the biggest drawback to this hotel. It stinks of cigarettes, all the time and it is the only point of entry to the hotel. The rooms also carry the smell, whether it all permeates from the bar or whether it comes from having smoking bedrooms I can't tell, but as a consequence, I will endure it, but never choose it.

I wasn't expecting much after seeing reviews on here but I was still disappointed.

If I start with the positives... the staff are friendly and the bed sheets were clean.

That's it really. The food areas is tiny and the food is very average. The bar area is also very small and a little dingy.
The corridors to the rooms are dark and depressing. The room in general wasn't very clean. The carpets are very stained. The bathroom was very old and a little creepy. You can also hear other guests from their rooms.

Basically, I would say that women should avoid this hotel. Groups of men on a trip should be ok here as it is basic and reasonably priced. The bar staff are happy to serve drinks at any time of the day or night!

Stayed here for 2 nights in October. A coach load of us went to see a football game in Brugge which is about 20 mins away. The hotel itself was fine for us as we only wanted to sleep here, if I wanted comfort or luxury I would stay somewhere else, as mentioned by others the hotel is really dark and the stairs are very steep although these are a better option than the dodgy lift. Breakfast was continental so to speak, there was a toaster and a plate of cheese. The best part of the hotel was the bar, it was very relaxing and reasonably priced. You get what you pay for here so if you just want somewhere to kip this place fits the bill.

We stayed at the empire hotel for two nights as we were on a coach trip with a party of 18 people, this hotel as far as I know has been used for coach tours for a number of years.
The hotel is in a good position and offers easy access to the coast, shops etc.
My personal view of the hotel is that the hotel overall is ready for a makeover. The place is quite dark and dank. The bar area was cosy but very small and provided a good atmosphere. it is open all night so I am not sure if the noise would carry to the lower floors, we had no noise pollution on the 5th floor. Ther is a smoking area by way of a sliding door by the side of the bar which created a cold draft when opened. There is a nice resteraunt on show near the front of the hotel with modern
decor however we dined in the back in a basic dining room, I never saw any one in the dining room. Luckily the bedroom was o.k. Very basic but clean White bedding and the shower nice and hot and clean facilities. The food we had was ok, again quite basic service was ok friendly bar staff and I thought the service in the dining room was ok, there is a small lift which broke for a day but was repaired the next day thankfully as the stairs are quite steep.all. in all not too bad, I won't stay there again but it's ok for a short stay.
