We have just spent 4 days here with Shearings. The hotel is old but a very warm welcome from all the staff. Barry the barman was very nice and helpful with his knowlage of the area. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the back of the Hotel but as we dont spend all day looking out of the window that didnt matter, the room was very quiet and spotlessly clean. there is coffee making facilities which you dont allways, get and the room cleaned daily. We enjoyed the breakfasts( serve yourself ) coffee,3 juices, eggs beans, toast ect. The Hotel is situated on the main street next to Pizza Hut, with the market opposite and great shops, the beach and prom are about 200m away. This is our second time in this Hotel and we would go back .I think some people want 5* Hotel but 2* prices Good value for money.

Room Tip: We found the back of the Hotel quiet and we like a high floors

This is in a dirty side street with litter & dog mess. Also noisy, especially overnight.
Bedrooms are just about adequate, provided you only want to sleep in them. Not much room.
Food that should be hot is served cold and unless you have the same as your companion, will be served about an hour apart. And then it tastes either of nothing or is just horrible.
The lift is held together with bits of wood and all the hotel is barely lit especially on stairs. The so-called terrace is filthy dirty with broken floor tiles and flaking cement on the walls! The chairs are broken and dirty.
Fire extinguisher last serviced in 2009--says it all really.
Must be the scruffiest 'Hotel' in Ostend

Room Tip: Best tip--stay somewhere else!

We stayed in this hotel as part of a wekend tour to Belgian Christmas markets. As there was a coachload and the lift is very small we took the stairs to reception - and then a further two floors to our room. The room was spacious with a small table and two chairs and a good sized sleeping area with kettle and tea/coffee. The bathroom was of a good standard looking as if recently refurbished. However despite being a non smoking hotel the room reeked of tobacco smoke. We had both windows open all night although it was cold. The windows had no catch so couldn't be left partially open. In the end we gave both sets of curtains a liberal spray of anti perspirant which mostly solved the problem. However in the moring the boiler serving our part of the hotel had failed so the room was cold and so was the shower/water.Staff were very apologetic and the boiler was soon fixed The biggest laugh was the sony flat screen TV - the picture was upside down! Apart from that the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast room was very pleasant with a good selection of a continental breakfast - scrambed and boiled eggs, mushroom cereals, various breads/rolls/croisants. Juices, tea coffee etc.

Ask for a roomm at the back - we overlooked the glass roof of an arcade and it was very quiet - others at the front had noise issues -although it was a weekend and in a ggod location inthe centre of town

A lot has been written about the quality of this hotel but having just returned 24/10 after a trip to the Bier Festival (10 of us) I really can't see what there is to complain about.
Sure the rooms are small but they are clean and comfortable with coffe making facilities and a decent shower. Check in was extremely quick and the breakfast was much better than expected to be honest.
There are some steep steps however and the lift only goes to reception so it can be a bit of a struggle if you have difficulty walking.
All in all, for a budget hotel it is worth what you pay for, and we would certainly stay there again, especially as it is in the heart of the City
