“Wonderful dinner on Christmas Day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

We booked by 'phone two weeks in advance for dinner at 7pm on 25th December and we found the booking process to be very efficient - overseen by the the couple who run the restaurant who speak excellent English. It's a very intimate and very tastefully decorated restaurant located in a side street - it is a little like eating in someone's lounge; we counted 16 diners over the period of time we were there. There was quiet, background music playing - it is definitely not the place for a big, noisy celebration.

There was a set menu which we chose from: the pâté de fois gras was sublime, we followed on with sea bass and ribeye of Irish beef which were perfectly cooked and presented. We finished with a cremeux mango dessert. We ordered a bottle of cotes du Rhone (€26) and finished with coffee and liqueurs. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable evening, wonderful food, fab service, romantic ambience in a small and cosy restaurant. The bill was €145.

“Excellent Food in Traditional Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

Tiny Restaurant, Booking essential during holidays, food delicious, service very good. Atmosphere and decor very restrained. Superb Shrimp Bisque Soup, Pheasant in cream sauce. Ample to generous portions.
Two courses each and bottle of wine (24E) totalled 98Euros.

“Classy, excellent delivery of fine dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

Quality dining experience. I've dined in fine restaurants in a number of countries, this was comparible with the best of them. Competitive price point but more importantly, this is tucked away in a quiet square near the centre of Bruges. Excellent interior, clean lines and tables, decor is tasteful and appropriate. You are shown to your table and de-robed before being offered the drinks. There are not many covers here so if you're expecting lightning service, you've come to the wrong place and are expecting the wrong experience. The menu changes regularly and the dishes are all freshly cooked and prepared individually. Very intimate experience from the proprieters who understand the dining experience without being superfluous. Excellent.

“Very good and friendly restaurant with excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

Location: in the city centre of Brugge. Just a few steps from the main square

Owner: This restaurant is owned by a married couple. The man is cooking and a woman cares for guests.

Design: it´s a small, but very pleasant and beautiful restaurant. There´s only eight tables and small choice of food.

Staff: very friendly and helpful

Menu: we visited this restaurant during Christmas, on 23th of December. We had starters, main dishes and red house wine, which was very good.

Prices: are higher (like everywhere in Brugge) but quality of food and service are really very good. We have paid 130 Eur/dinner for two including apetizer, main dish, wine and water.

Reservation: it is better to make a reservation in advance.

“Really lovely restaurant - Seek it out.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2012

My wife and I visited De Stove as part of our 10th Wedding Anniversary celebrations and came away pleasantly surprised by this unassuming little restaurant in central Bruge. I made a reservation via email having read reviews on Tripadvisor just to make sure we something to aim for instead of waffles and frites on our 1st night in town. Despite not feeling vey hungry we were glad we'd made the effort.

Its a small restaurant with only about 8 tables and a strangley oversized table in the middle of the restaurant which held their Christmas tree and a comments book.

However this is clearly a tightly run family restaurant with Mr 'Stove' front of house and doing all the serving and presumably Mr Stove doing all the cooking.

Apart from a slight mishap with a spilt half bottle of red wine when the opener got the better of Mrs Stove the service was very good and friendly. The menu was small as you would expect for a small outfit and was limited to fairly simple classic bistro dishes. My wife went for a simple fish fillet and I went for a Irish steak (which is rare for me, no pun intended). I also had a starter of shrimp croquettes which were excellent. I was served frites with my steak and have to say it was the biggest portion I've ever been served outside of a Fish shop!

Oh and almost forgot, the home made bread served as a warm up dish was really very good indeed.

Food was simple, well cooked and tasty. Service was good in an unrushed kind of way. Setting was pleasantly intimate in a homecooked kind of way. Only downside for me is that I felt pricing was quite high for what was on offer. 26 Euros for the steak was typical of main course pricing and most starters were over £10. Even with a better Euro rate these days. Thank goodness for the Eurozone Crisis!

Would definitely seek it out next time we are in Bruges.
