Hotel Dukes' Palace Bruges

Certificate of Excellence

This was a lovely hotel to stay in. Decorated in a traditional manner and clean with very helpful staff. This is a very central hotel, close to the main square, shopping, and rivers if you wish to take a boat tour around Bruges - which in itself is a fabulous city. Great for shoe and bag shopping ladies! Hotel is excellent for being able to pop back and deposit your purchases so your arms don't get tired!

Staff here are all excellent (although there's always one!), very pleasant, I would recommend booking in for the breakfast - there is such a wide selection of foods: a selection of fresh juices, breads, pastries, cooked breakfast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, cold meats, cheeses, and who could complain about a glass of bubbly and Belgian chocolate for breakfast! (White, milk and dark!). Breakfast is served until 1100 hrs at the weekend which is nice - although we were told (along with some other guests it transpired) 1130hrs - as such we arrived down just after 1100 hrs to find them starting to clear up. The female servers were excellent, especially Tina, however the waiter 'Paul' was less than courteous and basically lifted the food from in front of us, making it blatantly obvious that he was displeased at out 'lateness', by tutting loudly and dramatic gestures of looking at his watch (despite the fact that we were not the only ones told 1130 hrs and it was not our fault). Personally, aside from the money paid, I do not expect to be treated like a naughty child by some jumped up waiter because he has made his mind up about why we are 'late' for breakfast, and treated in such a judgemental manner by any member if staff - especially when they don't even bother to find out why you are 'late'. Rant over!

Parking is an extra €25 per 24 hours but it is secure and they will have your car brought up upon request when you are leaving. I don't know how much it is per partial 24 hr stay as we didn't get the car out from we arrived until we were leaving.

All in all, an excellent place to stay, very comfortable and very well kept, the chambermaids do an excellent job and your room is great for some r&r if you need it. Also from the first day I couldn't get booked into the spa for 3 days at a reasonable hour which was a bit disappointing.

Just don't be 'late' for breakfast!

Try not to arrive on a Saturday by Car, as we did because the roads are closed off to traffic to accommodate the Markets up and down most approach streets, however we ignored those signs and drove through the crowds to the grand entrance to this fine hotel. It is indeed the Duke's Palace and is accordingly, heritage listed. From the moment we arrived to our departure four days later, I am amazed to say everything was as close to perfection as can be expected. The reception, housekeeping, restaurant and even the 'turn down' staff are well trained, helpful, multi-lingual and considerate. The room was wonderful with a great view of the gardens at the rear of the hotel. The bed was an over-sized King and very comfortable and the 'turn down' staff paid special attention to the type of pillows we required. Dining is a great experience, as is a relaxing afternoon cappuccino with petite fours. Room service is just as good and the Buffet Breakfast has so many varieties, it took about 20 minutes to grab all on offer. This is truly a great place to stay in the Historic City of Bruges, Belgium and if you choose any other Hotel, you will make a mistake.

Room Tip: Ask for a Garden View Room.

My husband and I stayed here for a 3 night stay in Bruges. It is well situated , within easy walking distance to all sites. shops and restaurants. Our room was clean and well stocked. The staff was helpful, setting up dining reservations and tours. Breakfast was included with our room and offered a wide varity of foods.

When our cab pulled into the gated cobblestone courtyard, our jaws dropped. What a beautiful property! Truly a historical palace with modern upgrades working in perfect harmony. The elegant reading rooms are a perfect place to relax, the lounge with its cozy seating areas looks out over the fanciful grounds, and our room was luxurious and sooooooo comfy! My favorite part: the breakfast room! White linens, shiny sliver, classical music, 3 rooms of food, unlimited champagne, and huge wheels of Belgian chocolate! Northern Europeans are known for aloofness so we were prepared. However, our experience wasn't diminished in the least. Our only disappointment was the spa: don't bother. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel and the city of Bruges!

This is a nice hotel with a beautiful big garden, rather rare for a hotel in the centre of Bruges.
We were rather disappointed with the duplex family room as it was not corresponding to our expectations. The upper floor for the kids was a very small and rather claustrophobic area where the beds where very close to the wall and the windows were facing a wall again. Besides, the shower area was on this floor, so not very convenient for the parents who were in the lower part of the room. So, make clear what kind of room you`ll be given when you book.
Unfortunately, as the hotel was fully booked, we could not move to another room.
The staff was very good and helpful, in particular at the reception. I should mention Marie for her kindness and her will to help us.
The bar area is very nice, but the staff there was a bit stiff. Unfortunately, we were not able to dine at the hotel`s restaurant as it was fully booked.
There is no swimming pool anymore, so don`t be fooled by the photos.
Breakfast is nothing special and you have to go to different rooms and areas in order to get it; probably not worth the 100€ for a family of four.
I could probably return to this hotel, bur certainly in a different room.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the main building and not to the old part of the hotel.

I booked this hotel for 4 nights in May.It was not my first choice but Bruges was very busy so I had little choice.I arrived by car and the Hotel was not easy to find as it is not on my sat nav because it changed name recently so check its in your nav system before you arrive.
The Hotel is a beautifull building and really well located within walking distance of everything.
The reception area is very small and if two or three parties are there at any one time its overcrowded. The check in was very perfunctory key just handed over and told where the lift was. There was no one about to unload the bags so I did that and left them in the reception area,as I was bringing in the last one of 4 someone offered to help.I said I would have thought that there would be people to bring in the bags but was told "they are busy".When the bags were delivered to the room I got 8 delivered mine plus someone elses.
The restaurant was fully booked for the first two nights,no room for hotel guests!!!!!! now that's 5*service.
The room was very small with a beautiful view of air conditioning units and dogs barking on a flat roof across the lane it was room 528(I think) there was a large crack in the sink and the bathroom was not all that clean,no tea/coffee making facilities.
I noticed that WIFI was free for "basic" very slow and unreliable service but there was a daily charge for an upgrade. This really annoys me that any hotel would charge for WIFI.BRUGE HISTORIC CITY WIFI IS FREE IN THE STREET.
The service in the bar is really slow and not efficient , it should be both as the cost of 2 G&T was €26.00
The staff were in general very supercilious and could do with a course from some tourist organisation it improve their manner.
The restaurant was really fab great food, its expensive but worth it.
I will not return to this hotel and do not recommend it.i fail to understand how a hotel like this can achieve 5* it is misleading to consumers who expect top quality everything if they pay for 5*

Room Tip: try to get a room that looks out to the front.

This hotel is a little bit of a sleeper, tucked away on a back street. It is very well located, just a short walk to the city center. The rooms are lovely. The breakfast was amazing. The staff was warm, helpful, and friendly.
