Hotel Dukes' Palace Bruges
Ranked #14 of 97 Hotels in Bruges
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 28, 2013

The experience starts as soon as you see the Dukes' palace, the architecture, the location, the staff at the entrance...Everything makes you expect the best out of this place. Fortunatly, our stay was just perfect, we got upgraded to a very spacious room, very well furnished in that typical old dutch style, had a welcome drink and some snacks then we headed to the small spa of the hotel which was the perfect place to relax. Everything there is humain, no huge pool, sauna or bar with 20 people inside, you seriously feel home during your stay. The wood making noise under your feet, the ancient carpet on the floor, the small garden with that red dog staring at you, the cosy couches where you can seat and play chess around a drink...all of that transports you back to the Dukes' time and make it the perfect place to escape for a week end in Belgium.

Room Tip: Have a preference for the rooms on the front so you can see the tower

We really enjoyed this Hotel which lived up to its billing. We used the spa and pool and found them to be quiet and relaxing.
Room was spacious and well appointed.
Breakfast was generous and had a good variety, with hot food cooked to order.
Well located close to square (but not right on top of the square).

We've being at this hotel in October and it was a mixture of feelings. The hotel itself is amazing, very beautiful and fine decorated. The garden is amazing, the food spectacular. Restaurant and wine prices are fair considering the hotel.
The problem was the room. The bed was totally crooked and l had a huge hard time to get used to the "hole" in the mattress that I'm sure some day was amazing.
The shower was a problem as well. The water heater must had a problem, it could not maintain the water hot for more than 30 seconds. And it was cold, hot, cold, hot... We asked to change rooms, so they did, but the bed had the same problem.
300 Euros/night should not allow this kind of problem to happens. Very sorry but no more!

Room Tip: Garden View

What can one say……….. I think what comes to mind is the master card add “PRICELESS” took my wife to Brugge as a birthday gift and could not have picked the most amazing hotel in Brugge – actually it is the only 5 star hotel. Our room was upgraded with a bottle of champagne sent as an added extra for my wife. The room can best be described as royalty!!!!!!

Room Tip: Room with the garden view is amazing

I booked this hotel as a weekend getaway for my partner and I on Valentines weekend 2013. Firstly, the hotel was extremely accommodating, friendly and personable. You may expect this level of service from a five star hotel but it is not often you get the impression it is genuine. Upon arrival we were shown to our room [Superior Room with Garden View] and shortly after offered a complementary valentines weekend sweet. A nice gesture for such an occasion. The hotel itself felt very quiet, and you can't help but be impressed with the grandeur of the venue upon arrival and the spa looked spectacular. I would definitely book this venue again; we paid 260 Euros per night for our room inclusive of taxes.

Room Tip: The room we had was a Superior Room with a Garden View. Aside from the rather daunting portraits in...

I wrote a review in 2012 titled - Watch this space - re this hotel. I have had a number of people contact me and I wanted to clarify the issue was not specifically related to the hotel amenities nor indeed the hotel cleanliness or location. The hotel was fantastic but they shifted my son out as another guest booked a number of rooms and was given priority. This was despite our son paying in full the accommodation and having the room confirmed. Apparently a guest needed a number of rooms so the Hotel simply shifted my son to another hotel and thought that was a perfectly acceptable arrangement. He was then allowed back 2 days later to continue his stay. Not a very good policy I thought given the standing of the hotel. They did their best to find him accommodation in another hotel and provided him with a complimentary spa pack and a bottle of champagne, however it was rather shabby treatment and reasonable to be upset. It may have been a once off issue though, so unlikely to happen to you. Just makes me think their customer practices aren't up to standard.
