“Lovely guesthouse away from the sprawling masses”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

Avantgarde decor, great location, great value, friendly owner (couldn't take his eyes off my wife, which got a bit much but was generally harmless). Breakfasts were not very inspiring - rolls and croissants with cold meats, cheese and jams. On Day 3 we ate elsewhere. We shared a bathroom with another room - unfortunately they had messy bathroom habits but apart from that the bathroom was stylish and serviced on a daily basis. The early bird catches the clean bathroom... Comes highly recommended in a cut-throat town. Really enjoyed the distance from the hub and the masses of tourists.

Charming place! Manifique! Special thanks to Mr.Hugo who kindly cares about his guests. By the way he has special entertainment programm depends on weather in Brugge. It was really great. We stayed in Africa room, it has authentic interior. Seems you're not in usual hotel or b&b, feels like you're stayed with friends. And amazing breakfast every morning!

Beautiful house very close to the town center. Hugo is great and he can provide you with some basic informations about must see places and good but affordable restaurants. Room and bathroom were cleaned every day. Breakfast is also very nice. We took Japan room and got the whole floor with a large living room and bathroom.

Room Tip: Japan room

Picture this: We were walking with our heavy bags from the bus stop we thought we had to get off at down these winding cobbled streets, over a canal and heading down a seemingly domesticated street that was silent - and this was midday on a Monday! We ring the bell at the number we were told to get to and this gruffly man answers and tells us to come in. We step in to this dark castle like building with huge ceilings and a darkened wooden staircase as the owner came to meet us. He tells us to follow him as he steps onto these creaky old stairs. At this point I am SERIOUSLY worrying...

As it turns out this was an absolute gem of a find. Mr "Lady Jane" was in fact an absolute gent of a man, recommending some superb sites within Brugge, his own choice of restaurants, taverns, chocolatiers amongst others. He had available a pack of information to help us on our stay and left us to our devices after telling us he would "leave breakfast outside the door at 7am".

My inital fears had been pushed aside and our room was beautiful with a 4 poster bed and fantastic features making us feel at home inside our very own castle room (saying this I was able to blare out my music using the ipod dock!). We shared a bathroom with other guests which was not a problem, and it almost seemed that we were sharing the bathroom with Mr "Lady Jane" himself. It was a very unique experience as I am sure this gentleman had his own passion for hosting guests in his home in addition to his own hobbies.

Our one nights stay was perfect and in the morning our "left outside the door breakfast" pleasantly contained a range of fresh from the bakery goods (you could still smell the four), juice, coffee, tea, jams, yoghurts etc. This was VERY cute and finished off a very romantic day and a half in Brugges for my girlfriend and I.

Thank you Mr "Lady Jane". We shall be returning some day and we DEFINTELY will recommend you to all who speak of their plans to visit Brugges.

Room Tip: I have no doubt that there no bad rooms in this B&B. It is much more than a B&B.

This is the first time I have filled in a review, lady jane was so so good I felt I had to.
We stayed in the english room, lovely big light room, looking over the roof tops. Breakfast arrived on a tray outside the room, fresh, bread, cheeses, meat, fruit and yougurt and lots of coffee. Hugo was really helpful, helping us when we were stuck in bruges due to the rail strike. It was lovely to have a folder of recommendations for places to visit and to eat. The local resturants he recommended were really friendly and great food.

The Lady Jane is an amazing and wonderful experience. The hotel is right inside the old town and the building is in the style but well maintained. the owner couldn't be more helpful and my wife and I enjoyed our two days immensely.

Room Tip: Choose the Japanese room

The title says it all really. This place is truly amazing! Forget all the stuff you know about B&B's this is something else. We stayed in 'Japan' thinking the same thing as perhaps you are - go to Belgium and stay in a Japanese themed room, isn't that a bit odd? Booking the place was really simple and on the confirmation email Hugo (you will have read about him already) asked if he should 'cool a bottle of champagne' this basically sums up what he's like even offering to move our car around in the daytime to avoid paying for parking (we didn't take him up on it as he had a broken foot (the point here is that even with a broken foot he was still prepared to move our car around to make our life easier)). We arrived 4 hours earlier than asked to this wasn't a problem at all, with his broken foot Hugo took us upstairs not just to a room, but an amazing room with full length windows that was huge, adorned with what looked like a personal collection of Japanese memorabilia and furniture. This room alone would have exceeded my expectations when we were shown to our private living room again huge with 2 sofas and dining table piano and lots more. The bathroom was amazing too, twin sinks, jacuzzi bath and shower and all the stuff you forgot to bring in abundance in a little cupboard next to the fluffy bath robes. The attention to details is amazing as is the lighting. On the landing there is a fridge with nice quality beer and wine (a little note says "take a bottle of wine and leave four euros in its place, if the wine is not to your taste please take another", we drank a few and they were all good!). At 8.30 in the morning a tray of home cooked breads, meats, cheese, yoghurt, milk, orange juice, chocolate milk, fruit, jam, even chocolate spread (which was quite popular) appears on the table in the living room. There is a coffee machine there too and lots of tea making facilities. With the windows wide open looking over the rooftops the breakfast was a real highlight. One of the other reviews mentions Lady Jane being nowhere near the centre and taking an hour or more to walk there - we got lost a lot but that person must have had a serious sense of direction failure! It's 5-10 mins to everywhere in the centre. If you go also take the time to walk away from town to the end of the road where there are two amazing bars overlooking the windmills. I would not normally make the effort to write a review (or even join trip advisor) but I felt this place was absolutely worth it. Moules & Frites for every meal (well except breakfast)!
