We stayed at Cote Canal for three nights at the end of July. It was our first trip to Bruges and while the city lived up to all expectations, the Cote Canal would be reason enough to return to Bruges repeatedly. From the moment we made our reservations via email to the moment we left--with extra chocolates "for the road" given to my son by the lovely and super helpful hostess Caroline--the entire experience at the Cote Canal was perfect. We stayed in the Empire Suite, which, comprising two rooms, was perfect for us and our son. The room was beautifully decorated, with a modern and clean bathroom, and it overlooked the canal and the enchanting garden where we ate Caroline's delicious and varied breakfast every morning. The location was ideal--on a small and quiet but central street, just a few steps from the Markt and the Burg. Truly one of the best B&Bs we've ever stayed in.

Really ....don't bother looking anywhere else. This delightful house is absolutely central but in a quiet street so perfect for easy exploring of the town then a return for a noise-free interlude for complimentary coffee and chocolate before the next round of sightseeing. The hostess provides superb service and is to be listened to as far as restaurant recommendations are concerned. We ate very well in a variety of local places from Michelin haute cuisine to simple local fare - and avoided the 'tourist price/poor service' syndrome of such a busy town.

The house and garden are beautiful with every comfort thought of. Breakfast is lovely and taken in the garden when weather permits.

We found the15 Euro museum card well worthwhile. If you go up the belfry - and most will want to - then it is only a little more to buy a 3 day pass for all 16 museums. Again, Caroline will advise on the ones of specific interest for you and the ones to leave further down the list.

The canal boats are worth doing but can get very busy. Go first thing after breakfast and it is still queue-free and quiet. One of our best 'stumble-upons' - the pasta shop outside St Salvators church, Pasta Maria. They will weigh out however much you wish to eat and heat it up for you to carry out/sit in - the wild mushroom and truffle ravioli was fabulous. Yes, really - 3 Euros for a lunch size portion!

We loved our long weekend and would not hesitate to return to Bruges and most definitely to Cote Canal

Room Tip: Each of the 4 rooms is different and all beautiful.

We stayed at the Cote Canal for 2 nights at the end of June 2012, having been to Bruges several times before, and a friend having recommended it to us as "the place to stay". We were not disappointed. Caroline, was amazing from the moment we arrived, making us feel welcome and relaxed, and even darting off to locate some lost travelers, having shown us to our room.

The brilliant and beautiful location is unrivaled in Bruges (in my opinion), so much so that I chose to propose to my now Fiancee in the garden at Cote Canal, by the waters edge, whilst sipping a glass of Champagne, strategically placed in our room by Caroline whilst we were out for dinner.

Everything from the elegant lounge, manicured gardens outstanding rooms and unparalleled levels of hospitality was absolutely perfect, and will provide us with happy memories for years to come (or until the next trip to Bruges and Cote Canal at least).

Room Tip: Attic room is stuuning and a little cheaper than the "suites"

Dear Caroline, thank you so much for making our 3 day break in Brugge in July so wonderful.
Your expert help on where to go and what to see made our short stay so much easier.
We very much loved your Clin d'Oeil suite, beautiful, comfortable and relaxing.

We wish we could have stayed longer as you made us feel totally at home. We look forward to coming back to your lovely home the next time we are in Brugge.

Thank you again Cliff & Maxine

Huyze Hertsberg and Coté Canal are two historic adjacent houses connected to each other through a shared dining room. The location could not be better: In the Old Town on the main canal, in sight of the oldest bridge in Bruges, steps away from the Burg square, and a few steps further to the Markt. All of the principal sites are within an easy walk, which makes it easy to stop back by one’s room after an excursion or meal, and then venture out again without losing any time. The breakfasts are wonderful and varied, and the owner, Caroline, is a deeply cultured and multi-lingual native of Bruges, with a deep knowledge of the city. On top of that, she is an engaging extrovert who clearly loves running an excellent B&B and assisting her guests with having the best possible holiday in Bruges. Her restaurant recommendations were unfailingly great, and she steered us to streets and sights that we might have missed otherwise. Maybe the luck of the draw, but all of the other guests during our six day stay were very friendly and fun to talk to at breakfast. One caveat for the inexperienced or the simply clueless: This is a B&B in an historic house. It is very comfortable and clean, and the bathrooms are modern and spacious, but it is not new construction, does not have A/C, and the stairs are steep and long. You may find a mosquito in your room if you sleep with the windows open. My partner and I had a wonderful, relaxing, and very romantic stay here, but, if you want A/C, elevators, etc., try the Crown Plaza, which is just a block away and looks very nice. For us, there is no question that we will be looking up Caroline on our next visit to Bruges!

Room Tip: We chose Clin D'Oeil, on the first floor (2nd floor US) -- beautiful view of garden and canal.

We stayed at the Cote Canal for 2 nights. The Cote Canal is beautiful, and Caroline does an amazing job making you feel welcome. The breakfasts are great too. We have stayed at a number of B& B around Europe and the Cote Canal is definitely close to the top!

We stayed at the Cote Canal the first week in July. If we'd known how lovely Caroline and the Cote Canal were before we made our travel arrangements, we would have spent much more time here and less time somewhere else. The Cote Canal is beautiful, but Caroline makes it extraordinary. She was the most charming and helpful host. We could have spent the entire day just chatting with her, because she was so knowledgeable about the town, the history of the house, and other places we planned to travel. Every inch of the place was decorated beautifully and tastefully. We stayed in the Clair de Lune, and it was so beautiful and peaceful that I am in the process of decorating our room at home in a similar style. The room overlooks their beautiful backyard and the canal, and I could just sit in the window for hours if I lived there. I wondered why such a wonderful place is not rated #1, and I think it's because the ranking on Trip Advisor has something to do with the size of a place in relation to the number of ratings per room.We chose this place because it has mostly "excellent" reviews, and we are already talking about how soon we can go back!

Room Tip: The Claire de Lune was absolutely lovely.
