We selected this hotel from choices in a Eurostar combined package.

The hotel is in a beautiful building, and the overall impression in all rooms is of elegance and style. The marble tiling in our bathroom was really lovely. Rooms are either canal side or garden view side. We had the latter, and the combination of lovely bed, heavy and lightproof curtains and amazing quiet led to 3 excellent nights sleep.

The location is at the far side (from the station) of Brugge. It will cost around 13 euro by taxi, but we subsequently used the excellent buses that stopped right outside the Hotel and took us to the station.

The breakfast was a good buffet, plus hot eggs and bacon and excellent pastries and breads. The dining room is a very pleasant room, and from the window seats one can see the world go by.

It is a short walk to the very centre of Brugge. But to get a wider choice of restaurants one can use the bus to get to and from the area beyond the concert hall area. We would highly recommend the Bistro Den Huzaar for a "splash out" meal. And the "Bean around the World" cafe almost opposite the entrance is a friendly place to get refreshments - but limited opening times.

So what are the limitations?

Wi-Fi is 5 Euro per hour.

There are no coffee making facilities in the room, and getting a jug of coffee was not advertised, although in fairness we did not ask.

Breakfast is the only meal offered, and there is no cafe.

We would stay here again without hesitation.

In reading the one review under "Terrible" or the few under "Poor", I noticed that either A) the reviews were from 2007, before the hotel underwent a massive renovation, or B) the reviewers gave low ratings, but still praised the property in the review, which is confusing.

This is an outstanding property, perfectly located three blocks from the main market square. It sits on a small canal, where you can watch the small boat tours, and resident swans go by.

The rooms are incredibly spacious by European standards, and well-appointed with sturdy, antique furniture, plush drapery, and soft carpeted floors. You almost don't want to leave the room. The staff is lovely and helpful, and the breakfast is varied and delicious (brie, smoked salmon, various breads, etc).

Stayed at this hotel for valentine’s weekend and for my partners birthday. What a lovely hotel. Staffs were very professional and helpful. We upgraded to a room with cannel view and it was well worth it with such lovely views.

The room’s themselves were clean and very spacious. On suite bathroom was also very spacious. Buffet breakfast was lovely with a glass of Champaign served!

The hotel is only a short walk from the main square and as with all of Bruges is set in a stunning location. You can get to the hotel from the central station on a route 4 or 14 bus for two euro and its less then a town minute drive.

I highly recommend this hotel and I urge you to pay a little extra for the upgrade from a garden to canal view room it is so worth it. The view is so beautiful. The temperature in Bruges was below freezing and the canals had frozen up but the hotel was warm and cosey with a welcoming fire place in the enterance hall. Not sure why people were complaining about the bathrooms! it was modern with a vintage twist and very clean. The room also had a fire place a safe and a mini bar.
I highly recommend this hotel it's in the quet part of the city and is a couple of minutes from the main square.

I booked 2 nights at the Martin's Relais to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday in January 2011. Although i had researched numerous hotels which were rated higher than this (on TripAdvisor), this hotel exceeded all expectations and should definitely be rated higher than 32.

Before our trip i emailed the hotel asking if some Belgian chocolates and flowers could be placed in our room on arrival. The hotel emailed back promptly and informed me of the options available. I went for half a kilo of Belgian chocs and a bunch of roses. I booked a 'Romantic garden view room', but as it was my girlfriend's birthday i asked if there was any chance of an upgrade. They said this may be possible depending on how busy they would be.

We caught the bus from the train station to the Markt (all buses marked Centrum go here). The hotel is a mere 5 minute walk from the Markt in a quieter part of the town right on the canal. It is extremely peaceful and picturesque. We checked into the hotel, which was easy to find. There was no mention of an upgrade at reception, and we were given the keys to room 29 on the second floor. I entered the room first to check the chocolates and flowers were there and was pleasantly surprised both were there as hoped. Chocolates were fresh and delicious. Half a kilo was loads! The flowers were pretty and set in a pretty clear vase. Altogether there were about 16 roses there, which was great value for money.
The room was LOVELY!! It was huge, with exposed wooden beams, a small seating area, anttique furniture and period features. The bathroom was immaculate, modernised and had his and hers sinks. It clear we had received an upgrade to what we believe was a 'Great Room'. The only gripe was there were 2 single beds pushed together, which were large and probably queen beds. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms quiet and relaxing.

The room had a fridge and free safety deposit box. Hotel breakfast was included in the rate, and set in a beautiful room overlooking the canal. A good selection of hot and cold food, champers and tea/coffee/fruit juice etc were included. At the end of both nights we went to the hotel bar which was fantastic. We were given free snacks with our drinks on both nights. These were parma ham, melon, nuts and belgian biscuits with tea.

The staff can't do enough to help and recommended the local restaurants and things to do. You also received a discount card meaning we got money off the Brewery and Belfry.

Bruges is an expensive city, but this hotel is definitely value for money. Would love to stay here again, or try another one of the Martins brand hotels.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and thought it was excellent. The hotel staff was really friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English.. Our room was charming, quiet, large, the bathroom was huge and the bed was really comfy. Can't say enough good things about it. The breakfast, which was included in our rate, was excellent - lots of items to choose from and even champagne. We loved Bruges and loved Martin's Oud Huis.
