“Francoise & Family ! Smiles and Warm Welcome !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2011

Once again Francoise and her Family were a delight to meet !
Smiles all round and then , once again , watching the Chocolates being placed into the box for transport back to the UK , you will never know how hard it is for us not to open the box on the Ferry home !!
The only disapointment for us is because of the wifes disability we cannot use the tea room upstairs but you will see from the many satisfied visitors that it well deserves its praise !
However we managed to bring home some of the Chocolate Drops for our delight at home , and very , very nice they were ! Yummy !
We will be back in January and , of course , The Old Chocolate House & Francoise & Family will be among the first places we visit ! Make sure you do !!
Thank You Francoise !

“The best way to start a Monday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2011

Upstairs in the cost rooms we sat and looked over the street as the city began to wake. A double espresso and a hot chocolate, with some gingerbread and biscuits. All served with enthusiasm, politely and quietly. The chocolate arrives as a large cup of hot milk and a small chocolate bowl of chocolate chips. Make it yourself with the little stirrer provided to just the right strength, resisting the temptation to eat the drops as you are going!

Came on a Sunday as well when it was busier and had the " chocolate with cakes" - a full tray of cakes, creme brûlée, mousse and chocolate. Not to be missed. Well worth looking for this little gem.

“The Best Hot Chocolate, EVER!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2011

Delicious is the only way to describe what you find here in the Old Chocolate House. We stumbled across the store as we were wandering around beautiful Bruges. "The best Hot Chocolate" the sign promised and yes indeed it was. You wander up the narrow stairs to a charming olde world tea room. We took a seat at a window table which enabled us to watch the passing parade of tourism. Your Hot Chocolate is served in a large cup, milk warmed to just the right temperature. Alongside that is a chocolate cup of chocolate buttons for you to stir through with the accompanying whisk. I did add those buttons bit by bit but my chocolate addiction found me actually putting all the buttons in followed by the cup! YUM!!

The waffles were served to us one by one as they are made fresh to order. I had chocolate sauce (of course) and my husband had strawberries and cream, I think they were the biggest strawberries I've ever seen. Again, absolutely delicious. We bought some (delicious) chocolates downstairs on our way out and stopped for a chat with the proprietors and found them to be warm and friendly. If you're lucky enough to be in Bruges do not miss this experience.

“Hot Chocolate served with a smile”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2011

We visited the shop as a result of reading reviews on tripadvisor and were not disappointed.
The children loved the Hot Chocolate with stir in chocolate buttons while we had Cafe Latte - our drinks were accompanied by a small selection of tasty chocolates from the shop for us to try.
Sited just off the pedestrianised area of Simon Stevin plein it was easy to find.
The Tea room upstairs is via a little windy wooden staircase is actually two rooms knocked through which can sit around 25 people and is decorated and furnished in a charming kitsch Kath Kidston meets hippy gothic chic kinda way.
There were also some interesting floor tiles on the ground floor.
Friendly staff spoke excellent English and were happy to chat.
We will come back again next time we are in town for sure!

“D.I.Y hot chocolate - the best in Bruges!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2011

Popped into the little tea room upstairs as the sign boasted it having the best hot chocolate in town - they weren't wrong! You may be thinking that you will be paying for it being the best in town but it is actually quite good. I had a hot chocolate which came in what I can only describe as a soup-bowl sized cup and a waffle and it came to less than €10. The hot chocolate is indeed the best in town and it should be as you make it yourself! They provide real chocolate and a cup of hot milk and off you go! All in all an excellent little find and a definite must go in Bruges!
