“Lots of space; go back after dark”

We loved this square; there is a lot of space for the children to run around safely. This has the best fountain in Bruges, with information about the four different aspects. We visited a few times and after dark on our last evening. As well as all the surrounding buildings having lights, the fountain is lit from underneath. Absolutely beautiful. It is close to the station and at the end of the main shopping street. Please don't miss it.

Definitely a secret it seems to most tourists, but there is not better place to get lunch on dinner in the city. Here is where you will find that most locals come to eat

This is where we celebrated New Year.
A stage was built and the square filled up very quickly, although we managed to be near the front of the stage.
Typical Belgium banter from the compare (i.e didn't understand any of it, until the countdown ...lol)
The bells were seen in with a long and impressive firework display and was thoroughly enjoyable!!
If you want celebrate with a drink, you are allowed to take bottles and cans into the square.
It seems everyone heads here as the night wears on but we also found that several of the bars that we visited were staying open until the wee small hours.
It was our first New Year away from home and we weren't disappointed at all, just be aware that the vast majority of Brugges is closed on New Years day although you will find somewhere to eat.

This place is nice for his terraces but for the rest a real disaster of architetural design al over the place. Better to go for a drink on a more romantic and beautiful place (Simon Stevin Place, Walplein, Eiermarkt......)

This square is just what it is, just a square with some fountains. However on Saturdays it come alive with an enormous market. There are stalls of every type imaginable and well worth the pushing and shoving as you wonder around. We purchased some delicious bread having seen the two long queues and thinking that the bread must be something special. It was!!
