“Rude & nasty”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

A group of us attempted to get afternoon tea/coffee & cakes here on a Sunday afternoon. Despite there being plenty of room we were denied service - may have had something to do with the fact that we were at least thirty years younger than the rest of the clientele and the staff.

“Nice outside garden but pricey”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

I think this has become some sort of tourist trap since Tripadvisor now has it listed. We enjoyed the outside seating in the garden in back, but the coffee and dessers were not very good, had much better at the Gingerbread Tea House. Once they got busy, as we sat and watched, service got slow. Would pass on this one, much better options.

“Fabulous with 'hidden' garden, a real gem and haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

I first read about Marie’s House on Trip Advisor and thank goodness I did, it was a real find and we visited every day!

We had a range of things such as hot chocolate (delicious!), teas and cakes though there is other food types snacks/lunches etc on the menu

Marie’s is run by a husband and wife team who are such a lovely couple and always had a warm welcome for us. ‘Mr Marie’ also makes some of the cake items and what a lovely baker he is too!

The real hidden surprise is the garden at the rear of the property, it’s a beautiful place with lovely tables and chairs dotted about the place and it’s such a pleasure to sit out there too. If I hadn’t of read about the garden on here I wouldn’t have known about it. There is a photograph of it in the window but it was fairly small and hard to discern that it’s actually available to customers rather than just a pretty picture in the window

I’ve read that a few people have found Marie's House hard to find, I didn’t think that to be the case and found it straight away but perhaps the following will help some others. I think the easiest way is to describe it’s location/find it is, to stand facing the San Salvatore church. There is a road that runs down the right-hand side of the church and if you look to the bottom of that road, facing you will be a lovely traditional Dutch style building with the year of build described at the very top of the brick work (think it was 1669) Marie’s House is a couple of buildings to the right of that Dutch building

I couldn’t recommend Marie’s House enough, so would encourage you to add this little haven to your ‘must visit’ list

“Nice quiet place for a coffee”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

A few minutes walk from the Markt, this small family run cafe has a garden at the back where we sat in a rare sunny spell and enjoyed listening to the birds singing! Coffee was excellent and the cake of the day was displayed under a glass cover at the entrance. On the day we visited it was apple cake which was delicious.Well worth seeking out.
