“Good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2013

We had a very nice break here, we had a room at the front overlooking the road but the sound proofing was very good so this was not a problem. For breakfast there was a good choice and all was good. Staff were helpful and polite.

I went to this hotel in Bruges via a Go Groopie deal and the hotel was great. Great, clean rooms with all modern amenities and staff very friendly. Food was also yummy with a lot of choice on the menu. The Go Groopie deal also included travel there so all was taken care of and we had a great time. Bruges is also amazing!

We liked the position of this hotel, as it was close to the historic centre, but even with our GPS was difficult to reach. Our room was comfortable and clean, but overlooked the main road so was rather noisy. As a light sleeper I found that rather trying. Breakfast was included and satisfying. Wi-Fi was available...but not in the room and we could not make it work in the foyer.

Room Tip: Choose one away from the street

If you remember, this is a European Hotel, not a North American one, you will be fine.
Smaller property..we stayed in the main building on the 3rd or 4th floor overlooking the rear..
Nice & quiet.
Francine & son Bart own & run this hotel...very friendly & helpfull.
Location of hotel is great for exploring Old Brugge by foot.
Continental breakfast included.
Will return next time we are in Brugge

Room Tip: Take higher floor in the main building in the rear

We stayed in the stables area and then the watch house which was fantastic.
Breakfast was great and we were allowed to eat earlier so that we wouldn't be competing with the bus tour staying there. They suggested a trip to the village of Damme which was also great.
Beds comfortable. Free Internet worked in main part of building but this wasn't a problem for us. Plenty of parking for our car too!

In short, do NOT accept rooms 1-4.

We stayed in room 3 and had the following problems:

- No WIFI despite the hotel advertising WIFI in rooms (because these rooms are so far out from the rest of the hotel).
- Staff rude and unhelpful when I reported this.
- Cold shower for most of the day (would need to get up around 7am to shower as hot water is gone by 8am). Hot water may come back on later, but for 3/4 days I could not have a warm shower.
- Room hadn't been cleaned properly which was apparent from litter being left from previous residents.
- These rooms are on the courtyard so there is likely to be noise from people outside and coming back late when the hotel is busy.
- Water from the tap however was at times only warm when we wanted cold water (despite the shower still being cold at this time!)
- The carpet and extra duvet were stained
- Mouldy smell and mould in the bathroom and shower leaks all over carpet
- Twin beds were pushed together so we had to separate them ourselves.

The lobby was very attractive, but the photos that the website shows of the rooms do not reflect the room we stayed in in any way.
If you do choose to stay at this hotel, ensure your room is 5 or over, and bear in mind that there are no kettles in the room or facilities of this kind in the hotel, so if you want tea or coffee, you will need to take your own kettle.

Room Tip: Don't accept 1-4!

I stayed at The Golden Tree hotel for 3 nights at the start of september 2013. I found its location very convenient for exploring Bruges. I thought the room was nice and had a very comfortable bed, but i could imagine some people may expect higher standards of decoration. Our room was at the front of the Hotel on the 2nd floor overlooking the main road and had opening doors. It was very hot the time we were there and left the doors open all night, I can sleep through traffic noise but I think some people could probably be a little disturbed by it, however you could always shut the doors. I should also add that the room looked towards the Belfry and was nice to see the sun rise with this on the skyline. The breakfast was a standard continental, cook your own eggs and toast etc with cereals, cheese and processed meats such as ham and salami on offer. The receptionists/owners were very friendly and helpful. In all it t was a good priced Hotel for a slightly costly City
