My wife and I read all these reviews and made our decision based upon them. We looked at the photos and were really looking forward to a romantic time at the hotel. We found out that the hotel looks better from the outside. Here's the straight scoop: The reception folks were very nice. We were escorted to Room #134. When we entered the room, we did not see the 4-poster bed and romantic B&B setting we were expecting from the photos on the web. The room was small in which the queen size bed took up all the space but perhaps 18"-24" on each side and 3’ to the front. The photos on the web must be of premier rooms, but I did not see a choice of room types when booking on Expedia. As night approached the room became colder and we struggled with what we thought was the heating system (it was actually the AC system!). To no avail we went to the front desk where the desk clerk was doubling as the bartender for the bar in the next room. We asked him about the coldness in the room - he confirmed that to adjust the heat we had to use the remote system that we had been using (yes, the one for the AC). He added that he liked it cold to sleep and played down our concern. Of course it only got colder as midnight approached. We contacted him again and he gave us a couple more blankets. In the morning, the desk clerk pointed out that the night desk clerk/bartender had been wrong and in fact the heating control was down by the floor in the corner hidden by the curtains! It would have been nice to know that! The "queen-size" bed was actually two twin beds pushed together and the chasm in the middle where the two mattresses met was uncomfortable. The room had a nice view of the canal in the front of the hotel, but the road in front of the hotel was busy and loud throughout the night. We tried to experience on several occasions the cozy room off the reception desk where the bar and a fireplace was located but it has limited seating and was full on each occasion. Lastly we heard about the outstanding breakfast, but at 25 euros a piece, felt it was a tad much for that place and were ready to leave the disappointing hotel anyway. I know there are a lot of articles praising this place and its #1 in popularity for the town, but our experience was very disappointing and I would never recommend it. Furthermore we found it hard to believe it is considered a 4-star hotel. Brugge is a great town, and do visit, but good luck with your stay here at this hotel.

Stayed at Hotel DeTuilerieen in Brugge, Belgium on December 20, 2005. Read reviews on this site and decided to stop by at the property with no reservation. In 5 minutes, agreed to book a Executive room canal view for night for 150 Euro, including breakfast for two(25 Euro per head value). The front desk even suggested we check the room before booking - a sure sign of confidence and service. The room was listed for over 300 EUR and was selling on web that night for over 200 EUR. Property is kept very clean and housekeeping came to make bed @ 10PM. Room was very spacious with clean and modern bathroom - tub, sink and a enclosed stand-in shower. The service was superb and always smiling - polite and courteous at all times. Apples in the front lobby and free loaner umbrellas in case it rains. Location is 5 minute walk from City Center an paid meter parking is readily available in front of the hotel (free overnight). Breakfast was full of choices - champaign, eggs to order, juices, tea/coffee and breads/cheese etc.
Great town - all night party and very safe. Looking forward to another stay at this property - although far from USA.

Unnecessary perhaps to add to the praise already given but happy to confirm this is a very nice place to stay. Breakfast is particularly good. Rooms just fine except for totally inadequate lighting. Mentioned it and the nice girl at the desk said many complaints and they were going to improve it. No negatives apart from that; a very handy location also for museum- visiting.

We stayed for 2 nights in mid-December to do some Christmas shopping. The hotel is gorgeous, romantic and cosy in a great central location with good-sized, elegantly furnished rooms. Breakfast is fantastic with a great selection of fruits, cereals, pancakes, meats and the chocolate fountain and champagne which are a decadent must!

The staff are friendly, professional and helpful and can recommend some great restaurants.

The only niggle we had was the noise from cars driving over the cobbled road in the morning although thankfully there wasn't much traffic.

If you're coming to Bruges for the Christmas markets, don't bother as there are only a handful of stalls and most aren't selling traditional crafts. If you're coming for chocolate and a quiet break in a beautiful town with great restaurants, then Bruges is your place!

Will be back to stay again.

We stayed at the Tuilerieen for 3 nights at the end of November. Cannot fault the location only a couple of minutes from the main square. We got a great rate (not through the hotel) including breakfast (147euros). As breakfast included champagne and a chocolate fountain this was a real bonus. Also they gave us a canal view room. Service was discreet and professional. Rooms were large - as were the bathrooms which contained 2 basins a bath and separate shower.Very cosy, although you'll have to bring your own kettle to brew tea or coffee. Brugge is a great little city which is very easy to navigate. Recommend doing the Straffe Hendrik brewery tour - great views of the city. (also the Belfry is worth the 366 steps). Restaurants are hit and miss, as Belgium is not known for much other than mussels and frites.
