On arrival the girl behind the reception desk was word processing (looked to me like coursework) and didn't seem like she wanted to be disturbed. We had a coach park view, which was my fault because I didn't request A river view. The receptionist was quite sharp about this which I could have done without. Tv didn't work and the Internet details in the room guest book were incorrect. The room was small but cute. Nice touches. It was clean. The coach/campervan park was noisy at night. Breakfast was good. Lots of smoked Salmon and crepes. Served in a cute breakfast room with a lobster tank over looking the river. The restaurant is highly thought of but only open at the weekend so we missed it. Would have liked to try it though if breakfast was anything to go by.

Although not the fault of the hotel, the booking site did not make it clear the room did not face the canal, but faced a coach park instead. This was really disappointing as not seeing water/ canal/ passing boats kind of defeated the object of being on board. The only view of the canal was from the boat was in the dining room.

Worse still, there were groups around the parking area partying the whole night away, which resulted in very little sleep for two of the three nights we were there. Again, not the fault of the hotel.

The room was pleasant enough although a little dirty, service adequate and breakfast good. The stay on board should have been fun, but the disappointment didn't spoil our 10th anniversary.

Booked this one because it looked interesting, it did not disappoint.

Easy access on entry to Bruges with safe parking.

The rooms and public spaces are clean and comfortable, the staff helpful and friendly.

The best breakfast we have had in ages.

Super location, only a few minutes walk into the centre; the perfect starting place for exploring by bicycle.

Room Tip: ask for a canal frontage room, much cooler in summer.

Сonvenient location for sightseeing - all in walking distance, staying at a hotel on the water - an interesting and colorful exotic. Breakfast rather quite good.
The rooms poorly cleaned, dirty windows, fungus on the walls in shower, dead flies, spiders on the web on the walls and ceiling. In the room terribly stuffy during the day and sometimes at night - open window and fan did not help, and no air conditioning. Living on the 1st floor you can hear every move your neighbors upstairs. Also great hearing from the corridor. Judging from the overall experience - the best years of this hotel left behind, it's not 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: If your desire to experience the local flavor will win and you still dare to stay at this hotel: do...

I loved the DeBarge. It's a small quite unique hotel in a converted barge on one of the canals. The rooms are small but comfortable and well-appointed, The breakfast is outstanding, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the view (from canal-side rooms) is lovely. It's a short walk into the heart of Bruges. The price was good, too. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal-side room.

I stayed here a couple of times back in the 90's and was pleased to find it was still around when I was planning a recent return to Bruges. I was not disappointed, it has been upgraded with a pleasant canal-side patio area and my cabin was well appointed. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. De Barge is a good bet if you're coming by car as it's easy to find (just off the ring road) and you can park for free right outside. The immediate location may seem disappointing - next to a coach park and an ugly fly-over but across the road is the beautiful Minnewater Park and a short stroll through it takes you to the historic city centre, De Barge is excellent value for Bruges, they offer a good discount for sole occupation and my cabin was very nice. Breakfast is above average with more than just the usual continental offering.

Room Tip: Room 38 is quiet and comfortable.

Situated in the ideal position to access the old section of Brugge, De Barge is exactly what it says, a barge, but with a hell of a difference. Beautifully decorated cabins a both comfortable and fully functional with modern amenities. The staff are great and very helpful. Breakfast is lovely and fresh with Belgium patisseries and smoked meats and fish. You can easily walk to the main Brugge attractions including the Grand Place, and visit the brewery and lace makers. Eating at De Barge is a lovely experience with very fresh fish and lovely accompaniments. Good wine list as well and selections of Belgium beers.

Room Tip: When booking ask for a river view and also remember to reserve a table for dinner.
