This vast, slightly chaotic and certainly very busy square boasts wonderful architecture to look at and visit as well as many amenities for tourists. You can begin your Bruges adventures from this starting point and you can complete ALL of your souvenir shopping in this square if you wish. Bruges is a very walkable town and it is easy to rent a bike to get around. You can hire a horse-drawn carriage to take you around, but in the end, you will experience the best of Bruges tourist attractions on foot.
There is a post office in the Markt for those who send postcards. One way or other, you'll end up here, but I would save your dining experiences for more tranquil and picturesque opportunities ( B2 for example).

Brilliant architecture on all sides of this square. It's very very busy at the weekends but early in the weekday mornings up its a little quieter and perfect for taking photos without tourists in the way!

We spend a few hours wandering round the shops and stalls around the edge of the square and around the side streets. The buildings are beautiful, and the Belfort towers over one side.

There are lots of restaurants and cafes around the edge of the square- most of them have set menu deals which are far more reasonable than eating a la carte, and the food is generally pretty good.

Definitely take a camera- the views are great!

Market was really wonderful experience. Everything so clean. Such a wide range of produce, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses. Lots of things to taste and buy.

As the name suggests it is the market square in the historical centre of the town... this is also where your connection from the railway station would drop you to and where your Bruges experience will start
