“Great Location”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

This is an owner managed hotel and it shows. We were welcomed on arrival and were shown where we could park for free in streets behind the hotel - great benefit in a city!
Our room was basic but clean and reasonably comfortable and the continental breakfast was perfectly adequate. However, timed lights in the corridors were a bit archaic and a coat of paint would brighten things up.
Getting into the city could not have been simpler either via the railway station or under the railway itself, about 10/15mins in either direction
English appears to be spoken by all the staff, its a mandatory subject in schools, who were very helpful in all respects

We stayed at this hotel after leaving an Ibis Budget hotel in Brussels which we hated. Upon arrival staff were professional, friendly and very polite. Our room was clean and comfy, yes the decoration could be updated e.g the brown tiles in the bathroom but looks can be deceiving, this is a lovely place to stay. Parking is around the back of the hotel and cars are pretty safe. You can walk into town. It takes about 10-15 minutes leisurely walking to get to town and another ten minutes to get to the main square we walked every day but on the final evening there was heavy rain so the hotel staff arranged a taxi for us and the gentleman was very friendly. Although the Taxi meter clocked up a fee of 9 euros 20, the hotel had a deal with the taxi service and only charged us 7 euros. The hotel is easy to reach and a good location for exploring. Although we could hear other people talking when were in our room, there was no noise at night time and we had a good nights sleep throughout our stay. There is no kettle in the room but we ordered breakfast in the morning and enjoyed the continental buffet. Thank you for a lovely stay Olympia!

I have now used this hotel three times both as an independent traveller and as part of a coach party. The Olympia is a bit of a throw back really, harking back to the days when you had family run hotels which had excellent service at a good price but the decor is out of date by at least a couple of decades.

The Olympia is ideal as a base for those travelling about. It is ideally located to the central train station, without suffering noise polution and is only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Bruges. The rooms are basic and the hotel has no restaurant, but if you can't find a restaurant in Bruges then you are doing something wrong. As I say the service is excellent with the staff willing to engage you in conversation in English (or Flemish) and offer handy hints for places to visit.

Breakfast is the standard continental fair, which can be a bit of a bun fight. Overall I have rated the hotel Very Good because it has that charm that you can not quite put your finger on and it offers good value for money.

Room Tip: The hotel key wallet offers discounts to local museums and tourist attractions.

We spent some time looking for a cheap hotel that was close to the centre of Bruges. The reviews about the distance from the centre were mixed, but we decided to risk it. It was only a 15 minute walk which really was a problem.
The hotel was small and clean, and the staff very friendly and able to speak a number of languages – therefore check in was not a problem.
Parking was free, but very confusing. However we didn’t get a parking ticket, so we assume we parked in the right area behind the hotel.
As for the room – it was a ‘standard double’, which was actually 2 single beds pushed together, we probably could of got this sorted but by the time we got back to the hotel after a day out in the town it was late and we just wanted to sleep.
Overall a pleasant experience at a reasonable cost.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a double if you want a double!

This is a small family run hotel about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Bruges. free parking on the road. The rooms were comfortable and clean, although could have done with air con or fan as it was 32 degrees whilst we were there. The continental breakfast was lovely, fresh home baked rolls, ham, cheese, hard boiled eggs, cerial, yogurt, toaster, fruit loaf, danish pastry. coffee, tea, fresh orange juice freely available.
The staff were very friendly apart from the blonde receptionist who shut the bar promptly at 11pm and refused to make even a hot chocolate if you were 1 min late as we were one night. The dark haired receptionist however was very helpful and pleasant as was the lady who served the breakfast.
Would definitely recommend for a short stay.

Room Tip: our room was on the first floor, right hand side, and had the sun fully on the windows from mid day...

Stayed at this 3 star hotel on 13th August 2012 for 4 nights. Booked a coach break with Leger, so didnt have choice of hotel, although the reading sounded fine for a 3 star. on arrival we were dealt with promptly and by friendly staff and givenn our key to room 201 which was 1st floor -1st room on the left.
On arrival in the room i immedietly noticed the holes in the net curtains. Hmm, i wasnt happy at all. twin room with single beds (i was on this short break with my mum),they had nice clean white sheets- no duvet, old time blanket instead. Decent tv on the wall- unfortunately no English channels to watch in the evenings when we returned after our long days out in various areas of Belgium. The room was very warm, we immedietly opened the window which swung open -we had to prop it open with an empty water bottle overnight as there was also no air-con.
Even the curtains had tiny holes in- WOW 3 STAR??
Bathroom was small but adequate-very dated and dark- as was the whole room. The wattage was very low indeed throughout our room.
Hey- a positive- good shower, and hot water on tap.
The ceiling in the room was stained- (must have had a leak at some stage). Our coats were hung up on prongs which poked out of the wall ((see photo). No drawers to put our clothes in. But there was a wardrobe which was fine for the few days.
Me and Mum enjoy a hot drink before we go for breakfast in a morning- but we heard that a kettle in the room was a 'no no' in this hotel. Sorry but we were'nt gonna abide by this rule!
Now to breakfast- fair enough i know its 'continental'- but i have travelled and had some marvellous continenatl breakfasts--not here though i'm afraid.
No croissants!!!!...Alpen and cornflakes-tinned fruit, cheese, ham, rolls, and bread for toasting. 3 toasters that must have been in use for years, the sort you have at home that you press down and then they pop up!! after a few attempts and waiting for at least 5 mins, your toast pops up !
Tea coffee fine though. The dining rom also very clean.
On the last morning i couldn't find my oil of ulay facial cream- ohhh the cleaner had moved it from the bathroom and put it into my Mums toilet bag. In my view she should have left it where it was after cleaning the shelf in the bathroom. Also when we put our toothbrushes in the small glasses provided in the bathroom after using- she had also left them on thhe shelf instead of putting them back.
Positives about this hotel: very clean, walking distance to the centre of Brugges and the railway station, friendly staff.
I would not recommend this hotel to fam or friends.
