Stayed here with my daughter for 2 nights and we loved it. Staff helpful and friendly - showed us right up to our room, although the outdoor lift is VERY slow, so only use it to move your luggage. Room was very comfortable, although the bathroom was a bit too close to the bed (in room 36), so maybe run the taps a bit, for privacy, if you know what I mean! Bath and shower good, with toiletries provided.
Breakfast was lovely, with fresh fruit salad, cold meats, cheeses and smoked salmon, pastries and bread, with good selection of jams etc. Cooked breakfast was just scrambled omelette type egg thing, with sausages and quite crispy bacon, but we don't really do the cooked breakfast thing, so not too bothered that it wasn't as extensive as the typical 'full English'. Also, a jar of Belgian chocs in sachets - well, what could I do? Be rude not to!
What we really loved about this hotel was the bar area where we had a last drink on returning at night. It's like being in an old-fashioned living room with log fire. Could have spent many a winter evening here, it was so homely. We both had hot chocolate drink as well as (yet another) Belgian beer - reasonably priced, and served with nibbles and (yes, you've guessed it, or have you?)more chocolate - a few little chocolate eggs! Brilliant! Noted that the whisky on the drinks menu expensive though @ ( I think) 8 euros.
Easy walking distance to the centre of Bruges, the Markt, Belfry etc. There's a great little cafe nearby too, just as you approach the canal, which has a cool juke-box. Really good atmosphere for a Belgian beer or 2. Oh, and in a shop nearby, we met a man who had met Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson when they were filming 'In Bruges', and had the photos to prove it.
Brilliant stay. Loved it!
We loved it here.
