“Perfect for Bruges and further afield”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

A small, privately-run hotel where you receive genuine service. Dany and/or Ruben are always on hand and readily greet you by name. The hotel is ideally situated, a short walk from the main square and the 'tourist areas' (which were packed during our stay at the end of April) but tucked away in a quieter quarter.
Our room was well-appointed with ample storage and a large comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotless and had a lovely shower (and bath). Despite being full, we never heard another sound from the rooms of other guests -- more than can be said for many hotels! (Belgian hotels don't have 'welcome trays' for making drinks, but the Biskajer does have a small bar for alcoholic and soft drinks -- try the Beer of the Month.)
Breakfast was typical Continental style with loads of choice and set us up for the day.
This was our first visit to Belgium but we would certainly stay here again and use the hotel as a base to explore more of Flanders. (The railway station is only a short bus-ride away, and the bus stop is about 50m from the hotel. Cycle hire is also nearby and it is easy to ride the flat, quiet cycle paths and roads outside the city.)
We hope to return soon.

This hotel is well placed for discovering Bruges, located in a quiet square close to a canal. The city was full of visitors the weekend we stayed so we were grateful for the peace and quiet. Small room but cosy and clean with a good sized bathroom and separate shower. We were particularly impressed by the kind and attentive service of the staff who always greeted us by name.

Yes, we've been here before and will stay here again on our next trip. The main attractions are the great location and the friendly, helpful and personal service provided by Dany and Ruben.
The only drawbacks are the slippery showers (particularly for older folk).
The breakfasts are great and make it good value for money!

Literally 30 seconds walk of the square, superbly positioned hotel. Rooms are lovely and very well appointed. We were up on the third floor but elevator worked fine (although was a slightly unusual experience due to its lack of a door...) Bathroom and shower were well above average, a real treat. Breakfast also was very well presented and put together. We would certainly use this hotel again.

We loved staying at the Biskajer Hotel in the picturesque old Spanish quarter of Bruges. The location was perfect, in a gorgeous tree lined square just a few minutes walk from The Markt and The Berg squares.

Danny and Rueben the Biskajer's owners were very welcoming, friendly, helpful and extremely informative. The hotel is tastefully decorated and very well looked after. Our room was lovely with a good size double bed, wardrobe, dressing table, chairs, room safe, TV and good ensuite bathroom with bath and shower and heated towel rail, plus complimentary shampoo and shoe shine etc.

We loved the Biskajer Hotel. The breakfast room serves a plentiful and tasty continental breakfast with loads of choice, croissants, pain au chocolat, breakfast rolls, OJ, coffee tea, toast, cereal and loads more from 8-10 am. There are also 2 good cafes on Jan Van Eyck Square just 20 metres away from the Biskajer Hotel. Coffee was only 2 euros a pop at Delisa cafe and really delicious with tables on the pavement and inside too.

Rueben and Danny showed us loads of places of interest to go in Bruges and pointed them out on the tourist map for us, they also know some great places to eat and pointed them out for us too. The owners were also extremely helpful when they made restaurant and taxi reservations for us. Thanks for telling me about Der Vlamsch Pot, the Belgian Beef Stew was out of this world.

Danny and Rueben made our stay even better with their brilliant sense of humour and their warm and friendly personalities. They couldn't have done any more to makes us welcome at Hotel Biskajer.

Bruges is a fantastic place to visit and we felt really lucky to stay in such a cool hotel for our first time in this fantastically well preserved medieval city centre. The Hotel Biskajer is a fantastic place to stay.

The awe inspiring Markt Square and Belfry, The Chocolate museum, Frite Museum, Lake of Love, The Nunnery, Berg Square, Horse Drawn Carriages, Canal Cruises, 250 + types of Belgian Beer and excellent food are all within a few minutes walk from this fantastic value for money 3 star hotel.

Many thanks Danny and Rueben for the happy memories we have of our stay at the Hotel Biskajer.

We anticipated the hotel being a good find, as almost all the reviews said so, but we were still very pleasantly surprised by just about everything! Danny and Reuben made us feel very welcome, and we were able to access our rooms at 12 instead of 2.30pm. Our rooms were not huge, but neither were they cramped. The beds were comfy, with good reading lights, but like many continental hotels, there is no facility to make tea or coffee.

Windows open so you can get fresh air. The TV worked well, and there are a number of channels in English but with Dutch subtitles,
The bathrooms had both shower and bath with a nice selection of the necessary toiletries, so if you are on a short break with just hand luggage as we were, you do not need to worry about taking your own.

Views from the rooms are nothing to speak of, but the hotel is on a very quiet back street 3 minutes walk north of the Markt and very close to a canal. Danny is great at recommending places to eat to suit your budget, and we were not disappointed with his suggestions for restaurants and bars.

Breakfast is a buffet of cold meats, cheese, bread, rolls, croissants and cereals, and you can boil your own egg in their little boiler which was a nice touch. They even tell you how long to leave your egg in for the desired results. Breakfast was very good indeed. In fact, the hotel is excellent value.

I unhesitatingly recommend this lovely little place to everyone, even those who can't use the stairs (there are no bedrooms on the ground floor) as there is an elevator your use. For tall people, our rooms did not have foot boards on the beds either (a significant consideration when someone is 6' 6").

Room Tip: Views are either of the leafy street or the roofs of adjoining properties.

To say that this hotel is perfect is not an exaggeration. The hotel is a five minute walk from the market square, this is ideal if you want to be close to visit the main attractions without travelling too far. The décor of the room was elegant and tasteful, and it was immaculately clean. Breakfast was always a pleasant experience with a good selection of food to accommodate everyone, and the staff were always courteous and polite.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with a friend and you want separate beds, request room 201. It is amazing.
