We travelled to Bruges with Riviera Travel via the Eurostar, with accommodation for three nights b & b at the Academie. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting Bruges, there are numerous restaurants within easy walking distance and the sights are also easily reached with a 10 minute walk. The staff were very welcoming and for the most part very helpful and friendly.

The weather was extremely hot during our stay, the first night was very uncomfortable and we did not sleep very well. We discovered that our air conditioning was not working and having reported it expected it to be a quick fix. One of the receptionists came to our room and it was apparent that she did not know what she was talking about, she told us that the a/c was working and that it had only just been serviced. When I explained that I thought the system needed the freon topping up because there was no cold air coming out she said that it wouldn't work properly because it was too hot! Eventually she agreed to call in an engineer and get the thing looked at. He duly arrived and was unable to fix it. We were given a fan for our room which was great for moving the hot air around but did nothing to cool the room. We spent the next 2 nights on top of the bed with the fan going full blast, not impressed.

We were part of a large group so that breakfast was a bit of a bun fight. There was plenty of choice and everything was well presented but we were glad that we didn't have to eat all of our meals at the hotel.

This was an enjoyable break which was spoiled by the poor sleep quality in our room.

Just returned from a wonderful 4 days in Bruges with Riviera Travel.
A very good hotel with an excellent buffet breakfast. Bit of a problem with Air conditioning not working in our room but the staff were very helpful and fixed it promptly.
Can't fault it for comfort and value.
Good bath and shower.

Lovely hotel , well placed, Good bar and excellent breakfast. Rooms well appointed- ours had teeny balcony overlooking courtyard which was lovely but did get noise from people sitting below windows and crossing the area. Fridge , tea making facilities but take your own coffee/tea as they charge if you want extra.

Good hotel in an excellent location. We requested a room overlooking the courtyard, which was nice and quiet. Good choice of food for breakfast and plenty of it! The hotel is charming, not part of a huge chain and the staff are friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard.

This is a lovely individual hotel in the heart of Bruges.I stayed with my 82 year old father and everything including the walk to the coach pick up point for our excursions was within comfortable walking distance. There are restaurants and activities within touching distance literally. The staff were lovely and friendly, the breakfast ample ,including seeds and grains with your yogurt or cereal! We had a room each , each slightly different which indicates that this is not a large anonymous chain ,but according to our guide a building once a convent and brewery!.
I would highly recommend the Academie .

My boyfriend & I were visiting Bruges for the weekend and after looking around at lots of different hotels we were both so pleased that we chose Academie Hotel after a fantastic stay and at very reasonable price!

The hotel is located in the heart of Bruges with Minnewater park just left of the hotel and the Grote Markt a 5 minute walk away (with lots of chocolate shops along the way!). With having such an ideal location it meant we could easily visit all the main landmarks / attractions within the time we were there - all by foot. You can also take a tour by the horse and carts which pass by the front entrance of the hotel if you wanted to.

Our room was in the corner on the second floor with a view of the courtyard which was lovely. We were extremely impressed with the size of the room - I had read a couple of reviews which mentioned how small the rooms were but this wasn't the case for us! We also had a large bathroom with a really lovely bath which we were thankful for after walking around all day.

The room was extremely clean, contemporary and with all the standard amenities you could need for your stay (coffee/tea/kettle, safe, air con, tv etc). The bed was also ridiculously comfortable and spacious - perfect! The room was also very quiet - we couldn't hear a thing which was surprising considering the minute you walk out the front of the hotel you can hear the clip clop of the horse & carts and chatter from the restaurants nearby and the church bells!

The hotel receptionist was very friendly & helpful - we arrived half an hour before check-in so she kindly gave us a map and pointed out the main areas to visit. We were then seated and she came to collect us when our room was ready after about 5minutes.

All in all a really wonderful stay in Academie Hotel and I would 100% recommend it to anyone whether you are coming for a short or long stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath!

Stayed here for three nights as part of a organised tour. We had a room adapted for the disabled and consequently there was plenty of space. We had no complaints, everything was as it should be in a quality hotel. The decor was not to my liking but having been to Belgium before I know that hotels tend to use dark colours. The other point is that it does not have a restaurant but provides an excellent multi-choice breakfast down in the basement.
If you like steak I can recommend the small corner restaurant only 30 or so yards further down Wijngaardstraat called the De Wijngaert. The steak is grilled in front of you and mine was the best that i have had since I was in the USA in the 1990s. The fact that it is frequented by locals speaks for it's self.
