We only stayed one night here, but thought it was brilliant. The interior is beautiful its in an ideal location just a fifteen min walk from the heart of the city which means there's little noise from outside. We had a standard room which was clean and spacious, tv has lots of channels and free wifi is good too! The pool is much smaller than it appears on the hotels photographs and a little cold. Continental breakfast was delicious, staff were friendly, they held our luggage before and after we checked in/out which is always useful in city hotels if your only there a day or so! With regards to the smell we did not experience any bad odour at all. Lovely hotel we will return if/when we revisit Bruges. :)

This is the first review I have written about a hotel. My fiance and I just finished a 3 day stay at the Floris in Bruges and we were pleasantly surprised. We chose this hotel based on some of the reviews and have to say that we were not disappointed. As a family traveling with a young child we found this hotel very well equipped to entertain young children. Its not to say that there are young kids running around screaming and we found the hotel to be very peaceful and quiet especially at night when it is most important. The childrens play area is full of colourful toys and activities for very young children and a big screen TV with movies and XBOX360 for older kids. The hotel has a great swimming pool which our little one loved splashing about in. The breakfast room and what was on offer was a good selection and great value for money if choosing the bed and breakfast option which we did and would recommend. The room was big enough for the 3 of us and clean and tidy. The cleaners came in everyday and made the beds and gave fresh towels. The hotels decor is contemporary and cosy and always spotless. There are several areas to relax when you arrive at the hotel and private areas to sit and enjoy access to the free wi-fi which we found very useful. Upon arrival we were greeted by Eric at reception who was friendly, chatty and very helpful. Over our stay he recommended places of interest to visit, helped with directions and even made dinner reservations at a lovely restaurant. I think people will always find something to complain about when it comes to reviews for hotels. If you have 5 star expectations then you should pay for and only ever stay in 5 star hotels. The Floris has been given a 3 star rating, however I think it deserves 4 stars due to its facilites, cleanliness and comfort factor.

This hotel is perfect for anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable & great location for a hotel in Bruges, but especially families.Overall we had a fantastic stay at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

Hi Michael,

thank you ever so much for sharing your experiences within our walls - we truly "heart" your review! It is indeed so that one of our main assets is our 'family-friendly-vibe'. With many triple and quadruple rooms we have the opportunity to accomodate families travelling with children. Apart from that we have indeed a colorfol Kids Corner with a large selection of games and XboxKinect ... if this wouldn't set your childrens 'playheart' on fire I'm sure our heated indoor swimming pool will!

Thank you for your nice comments about our team - we always do our best to provide the best service possible and strive for excellence! I'm pleased to read you were able to experience this and I will pass on your nice comments to my team.

I look forward to welcoming you and your lovely family back agian in our hotel soon.

My boyfriend and I visited for a couple days to see the city. The location was within walking distance of all the major landmarks, and even in the cold it wasn't so bad. The staff was kind and welcoming. The complimentary breakfast was filling and of good variety. The double room was small but nice. The shower was more for a bath as there was only half of a wall to keep the water from going outside of the bath. Overall good experience for the price.

Floris Hotel Karos is in a good location – about a 20 minute walk from the train station, and 10 minute walk to the Markt square.

Unfortunately the first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell! Other people have mentioned it in their reviews too – it does smell like a sewage problem. Clearly there is no straightforward solution, which is why the problem persists. To their credit staff tried to address this by using fragrance sprays but it didn’t mask the stink. It is mainly, but not confined to the lobby - whiffs crept up to the first floor communal area (didn’t explore any further), but luckily you didn’t notice it in the room.

The room was basic - no fridge mini bar, which I think is a shame! Nice to have a fridge to keep drinks cool, any food you want to buy from the supermarket. The shower was OK but struggled to maintain a constant temperature. Another gripe was the towels - I'm sure they were clean but they smelt like chemicals! There was a nice size flat screen TV.

The Decor was actually quite cool – a beach theme in the breakfast area. The food was good – bacon, scrambled eggs, cereals, toast, croissants, rolls, cheese, ham, fruits and yogurts to choose from.

There are a few things to its credit at the Floris Hotel Karos, as I’ve mentioned above (free WiFi was also great too) but I won’t be returning. The smell is a big problem – it’s not nice coming back to after your fantastic day in Bruges (nor to be welcomed to after hours of travelling). Please sort out the stink!

Dear,

thank you for having stayed with us and sharing your experiences within our walls.
As I've explained previously Bruges is often referred to as the Venice of the North - this due to it's many canals and yes - from time to time depending on the weather conditions there can be a slight odor in the city. As with any other sense the ability to smell something strongly or weakly depends on the person itself - some people have excellent eyesight while others are colorblind! To anyone reading this, please rest assured that there is no obstructive smell present in the hotel.

Our rooms indeed do not offer a minibar - this is not an obliged service for a 3* hotel nor do we advertise that our rooms offer minibars - nevertheless a fridge is available at Reception where our guests can store their drinks if needed.

Apart from that I like to thank you for your nice feedback about our : decorations - free wifi - delicious breakfast which we have recently been upgrading! - and flatscreen TVs which are available in all our rooms.

Should your travelplans bring you ever back to Bruges we would be pleased to host you again in our hotel.

Best wishes

Have just stayed at this hotel for the weekend:
Room - clean however no tea and coffee facilities, shower had a mind of its own - very cold! (staff did nothing about this and no apologies)
Reception staff - very unhelpfull, not welcoming
Parking - the hotel had parking for a charge which was fine untill we had to leave, someone had blocked us in and rather than hotel staff moving the car they gave us someone's keys and made us move it! Would not be happy if a customer had moved my car!
Hotel itself - WiFi connection was good, facilities like the pool looked good although didn't use, nice breakfasts, terrible smell throughout the hotel, sewage?
Location - good, close to main attractions in brugge.
Would not recommend hotel but brugge itself is lovely.

We booked the Floris Karos Hotel online as a last minute break. We were really impressed with the hotel itself and also the level of service provided by the staff. We noted that prking in Bruges could be difficukt so the day before our stay we emailed the hotel to ask about parking at the hotel. We received an email back almost immediately giving details of the hotel parking and for a small fee we reserved a space. The staff were welcoming and friendly and happy to give assistance if required, we were given a map of the city with suggested places to visit when we checked in. It was about a 10 minute walk to the central Markt. The room itself was very spacious and clean, the view wasn't great (it was a view of a wall) but to be honest we didn't book the hotel for it's view so this was no problem. The only constructive criticism I could make was that I would have liked an extra pillow and the ones we had were a bit lumpy, however I didn't ask for an extra pillow, if I had I'm sure they would have obliged. The hotel had a lovely atmosphere and the swiming pool is a bonus, although we didn't have time to use it. Breakfast is served in the dining room which was bright and cheerful. There was a good selection of food that meant all needs and preferences were catered for.
I have read some of the other reviews that were not great about this hotel and think that many of them are very unfair. Just because something doesn't suit your personal preference or taste (or you are looking to get some kind of discount but it doesn't quite work out the way you planned!) doesn't mean you should include it as a negative comment and give a bad review.
I would not hesitate to stay here again, it was great value for money and I would highly recommend staying here.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of pretty cheap Superbreak mini cruise package which also included 2 nights on ferry. This is a quiet, modern, and comfortable hotel about 10/15 minutes walk from the Maart. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is freshly decorated and nicely furnished with welcoming and helpful staff. The gentleman who was there afternoons and evenings was particularly friendly and cheerful. The continental breakfast was fine but we would have liked some coffee making facilities in our room.

We were a bit worried by reviews mentioning a smell and its true that once or twice there was a bit of a whiff of drains near the reception desk but it did not seem to permeate much farther so was not a big deal. A similar smell was experienced around Bruges so maybe it is to do with the canal system? Unless you are particularly sensitive don't let this stop you booking.

Room Tip: Room 135 was fine as was at back away from possible road noise.

Dear guest,

thank you ever so much for your kind words and genuine feedback!
I'm utterly pleased to finally read a contextualised comment regarding 'the smell' in Bruges - one must not forget that Bruges is often called 'The Venice of the North' this due to it's many canals ... not unlikely you might have from time to time a faint odor in the city.

Your warm words about our staff will be defenitely passed on and will be highly appreciated.
Looking forward to welcoming you back again in our hotel on another occasion.

Best wishes
