“Stunning and Friendly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

Stayed here August 12 and was very surprised at the quality and finish of the hotel. From the outside it does not look at all appealing but once you enter it is a very quirky place with some very unusual decor and lay-out. Lovely breakfast and ask for a Canal View Room, some beautiful scenery from a large window. Only a 5 minutes walk into the Markt where i would advise you pay the extra for a coffee just for the people watching sights. Walked around the whole of Bruge in under 2 hours one day so a short break should suffice. Get into a local bar and sample the Flemish Food, some really heary and delicious dishes to sample......be careful with the beer, 2 pints of the stuff and you may need a horse and carriage to get you back to the hotel!!!!! All in all, lovely hotel, lovely City and lovely experience, will definately be going back!

Room Tip: Canal View!

The location was perfect. A 5minute walk to the Markt.

The room was spacious, and very comfortable bed. I got a great nights sleep! However, If I'm being fussy there was no tea or coffee facilities in the room which is unusual for a 4 star hotel.
Also we arrived at 12pm and our room wasn't ready (fair enough as check in wasn't until 2pm) so we left our bags with reception and were told to come back at 2pm. Which we did and the room still wasn't ready so we were told to come back at 4pm. Slightly annoying as we wanted to freshen up given we had been up since 4am!!
The hotel only has showers which isn't a big deal for me as I quite like a relaxing bath!

I found the continental breakfast to be great. A really good choice of foods.

I booked a canal view room. But the only way I could see the canal was to put my head out of the window (suppose the view is still there).

I'm not sure what the superior rooms are like. But not sure I'd pay the price for the standard canal view room again. Having said that it was a comfortable stay and a clean room and the location was perfect. Very quiet and peaceful setting.

The hotel was very charming and easy to find. Our room was located just behind the reception desk. The room itself was very grand and very spacious, the bed was ok, but I am fussy when it comes to beds, I still slept though, well, apart from being woken up by the room upstairs. We wern't in bed early, we made sure we stayed out quite late enjoying bruges as we were only there for 2 nights. The floorboards were very loud and it sounded like they were moving the room around, this is not the fault of the hotel, just the peole who were staying in that room. Also being behind the reception desk we had the entrance to the hotel just behind the head board, we heard everyone coming back from there evenings out, gets very annoying after a while, but like I said we were only there for 2 nights.

The breakfast here was nothing out of this world, but it was tasty, typical european breakfast of pastries, cereals, toast and boiled eggs, still did us though.

I would stay here again but just ask for a room upstairs next time.

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year. We picked the hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor and it was as we expected. We weren't disappointed,

We had booked a deluxe room and we were glad we had as a bit of a treat. The room was a good size, and very clean. We were pleased that it was also very quiet. We had an issue with the safe which wouldn't work. We reported this to the hotel reception who resolved this for us, but about 3 days into our stay. The hotel felt very safe though and we weren't concerend.

The decor of the hotel was lovely. We enjoyed a few Zots in the lounge area which was very pleasant. There was always someone on reception to help out.

The breakfast was great with loads of choice. The breakfast area had lots of character with beamed ceilings. Being on eye level with the canal was lovely too.

What would have been nice would have been a kettle and coffee/tea making facilities in the room but otherwise, there's nothing that could have made the hotel any better if you like old worldy hotels.

I stayed at this hotel in September 2012. It is so charming and quaint! My room was quite large, but the beds were each twin beds. The bathroom was very large as well; however, the shower was a bit difficult - just being a tub. Breakfast was included, and was downstairs literally right along the canal. The hotel was very helpful in aiding my friend and I to schedule a bike tour to Damme -- And I highly recommend that bike tour! This is within walking distance to everything in Brugge and has great views. This was definitely my favorite hotel for my entire Belgium trip. It really brought out the European countryside, and the charming nature of the City. The only drawback is that the hotel did not have any elevators, and my luggage was very heavy!

Room Tip: I picked a room that did not overlook the canal, and it ended up being much bigger!

Have been going to Bruges just before Christmas for about 5 years now and always stay at this hotel. Lovely and quiet, yet an easy and quick walk into the centre. Beautiful old hotel. Comfortable rooms. Good breakfast - plentiful and lots of choice. Lovely little lounge area by the bar which is a fantastic place to relax after a days sightseeing. Have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. A great place to stay!

We stayed here over New Year and were really pleased with our choice. The hotel is very charming and old, with lots of exposed beams and uneven floors. The walls are very thin, but its bearable. Our room overlooked the canal which was lovely. The breakfast was great, with plenty of choice. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from Markt Square, and felt very safe. We loved Bruges and would definitely stay here again.
