Last year went here in Decemeber, climbed to the top, great views looking out onto the courtyard it took my breath away. This place is buzzing with people , not too crowded though, that you would want to get away from it. Its busy with a great ambience! Felt great to be there. Loved this area and Belguim in general. Have to return again!

For sure worth the cost and time to walk up to the top. Try and time it so you are at the top on the hour so you can watch the tower work. At the top there are 2 levels, one for the rotating wheel, the second has the bells. Make sure you look up past the obvious main bell to all the little ones that are hidden.

This place is amazing, except for the Japanese pavilion opposite the City Hall. However, it's much more beautiful at night, when there's no one around. And if you want to bring home some pralines, there is a wonderful shop next to the Basilica of the Holy Blood, where you can buy the most beautiful gift tins in Bruges (as I see it).

The Markt is the largest public square in Bruges. Nearby can be found the second largest square called the Burg. Named after Count Baldwin Iron Arm who built a burg or "fortified castle" here, around which the villages of Bruges developed.

The castle does not exist any longer. Instead you can find some fine specimens of architecture. The gothic town hall dates from 1376. Next to the town hall stands the Old Civil Registry in renaissance style. Its decorative statues were smashed to pieces in 1792, but were later renovated. Also hidden in a corner can be found the Chapel of the Holy Blood.

To me, these are the most beautiful edifices in all of Bruges.

The Burg square is the site of the Stadhuis, or City Hall, dating to 1400, and the ornate Basilica of the Holy Blood dating to 1150. Joyful wedding parties converge on City Hall on Saturday mornings and pose for photographs. Horse-drawn carriages are available for hire from this site.
