Owner description: Bruges' City Hall (1376) is one of the oldest in the Low Countries. It is from here that the city has been governed for more than 600 years. An absolute masterpiece is the Gothic Hall, with its late 19th-century murals and polychrome vault. The adjoining historic hall calls up the city council's history with a number of authentic documents and works of art. A multimedia exhibition on the ground floor illustrates the evolution of the Burg Square.

“Councillors were well-treated back then!”

Lovely big rooms, great wall paintings, well-organized with explanations of what one's seeing - plastic-coated sheets available in all rooms in many languages.

Worth a visit as part of your Brugge itinerary. Make sure you enjoy a hot chocolate either side of your visit.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

don't miss it, and enter this attraction. Inside you can see the splendid murals , there is a detailed explenation in english which makes them even more impressive. At the recpetion you can buy the bruge card which is quite profitable if you intend to visit some of the museums in the city (and not just 2 or 3 of them)

What a stunning piece of architecture, this Gothic hall has a vaulted ceilings and is in the Burg area. You pay a fee to go in bu it has been restored and is magnificent. Woodcarvings are beautiful.

“Beautiful Gothic building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

Worth the €4 entrance (free with Brugge City card). Laminated cards guide you through the artwork and history of Bruges depicted in the magnificent murals - what a wonderful way to learn about history! NB look out for the Tripadvisor logo on the end wall!
Don't forget to visit the Liberty of Bruges (Brugse Vrije) next door to see the splendid Renaissance fireplace (included in ticket), but we were disappointed that the display of brewing artefacts did not have an English translation/crib sheets - it looked fascinating.
