I visited it to admire the stunning The Last Judgment by Hieronymus Bosch as well as The Madonna with Canon van der Paele by Jan van Eyck.
i discovered also a wonderful Self-portrait with family by Edmond van Hove (1901) as well as 2 interesting portraits (Jan van Eyewerve and Jacquemyne Buuck) and a big map (Plan of the Abbey of the Dunes at Koksijde) by Pieter Porbus
You can find also a small Magritte

Some of the paintings are really wonderful but not enough variety to keep interest for more than an hour. Would have liked a tour with a guide.

This was a gem of a museum - we spent three hours looking at amazing late medieval art. The collection includes works up to the modern period but it is the early works that are captivating with their detail and symbolism. It helps to know art history but even if you don't you will be amazed at the talent of the so-called primitives.

This museum was wonderful! It is just the right size to pass a few hours viewing amazing Flemmish primitive art. We really enjoyed a current exhibiton by Fabienne Verdier...a caligraphist, specializing in asian lettering put her very modern slant on some classic pieces of art. The museum provided some literature that was very helpful; putting the classic and Verdier's modern interpretation side by side. This made it easier to "see" how the modern version took inspiration from the classic piece. Enjoyed this museum as much, if not more than the Brussles Fine Arts Museum. Well worth a stop while in Brugge. Reasonable fee of 8 euro.
