Lovely museum. It was very crowded when we went, but no one could help but stand in line to see such wonderful examples of art from northern Europe. I was especially delighted to see a Bosch.

“Top notch museum-Flemish masters old and new”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Recently renovated, this museum is an outstanding art experience. The Jan Van Eyck paintings here are breathtaking, and unlike the Ghent altarpiece which is far removed from the viewers and hidden behind glass, here you can get close to the paintings and really see the exquisite details in the Flemish primitive art. After arriving through a pleasant garden walk, this museum provides Memling, Hieronymus Bosch, Gerard David and Rogier van der Weyden fans a feast for the eyes. I was also impressed with the Impressionist painters and the modern art that was shown. After dealing with the crowds at the Rijksmuseum, this was a much more pleasant experience. I recommend buying the Museum Pass that saves a lot of money if you are making the rounds of the sights in Bruges.

“Beautiful art with a modern twist”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

You expect fine art, classics, van Eyck etc., but the standard is breathtaking. My favourite is the enormous van Eyck with the Madonna child and green parrot! Exquisite. There is a small gift shop, toilets, english speaking staff and guides, seating area, cards books and bags, some depicting the art you've just seen. We loved it. A couple of entrances can be found.

“Flemish art”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

The museum was small enough to visit without being overwhelming. It was housed off the street in a quiet area with a nice courtyard. The paintings are arranged by time period and it was easy to see the evolution in Flemish art. They also had free wifi and a nice area to relax!
