Owner description: These renovated 17th century, singleroom dwellings accommodate, amongst other things, a classroom, a millinery, a pharmacy, a confectionery shop, a grocery shop and an authentic bedroom interior. You can also admire a beautiful lace collection on the upper floor. Every first and third Thursday of the month (except for public holidays), those with a sweet tooth can attend a demonstration given by the 'spekkenbakker' (sweetmaker). You can relax in the museum inn, 'De Zwarte Kat' (The Black Cat) or in the garden, where you can try out traditional folk games on the terrace.

“Folklore Museum - historical not really for children”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Tucked away this museum has lots of wonderful old artefacts but lacks English description on the displays - you have cards too read but could be a bit more Lace display really good and finally the " black cat" was just right for a quick coffee and snack!

“Interesting and well laid out”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

This was a good place to visit to get a glimpse of historical living, as the sets were well done, and the reader given to take round with you, gave a good deal of information. A definite recommendation.

“A fantastic museum though sadly unappreciated”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

For a very small fee, this is a brilliant way to find out about the history of Bruges' inhabitants. All the rooms had been wonderfully restored to reflect the traditional trades, crafts and way of life of the working classes from 18th century on wards. The traditional cafe stocks reasonably priced beverages which is also a great way to enjoy the museum. The museum's cat following us around also provided a lot of amusement. The only downside was the lack of visitors who're really missing out.

“Trades from the past”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

This museum reside inside restored single room dwellings from the 17th century. These dwellings are now interconnected. It gives us a taste of all the crafts of that time period: a school, a pharmacy, a kitchen, a confectionery ... I especially enjoyed the last exhibition that explained the poor wages of people making lace in those days as well as the poorly wages of people working on clothing in third nations. They have still trouble making ends meet nowadays.

“Let me out!”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Awful. Under renovation & felt like it had been designed for school parties rather than the public. Would not recommend disrupting a nice walk in the quiet side of Bruges to visit.
