Owner description: The Diamond museum sheds a fascinating light on Bruges' gem connection. Diamonds were traded and polished here as far back as the 14th century. The museum shows how medieval Bruges was the first diamond city in the world, and why the industry later moved to Antwerp. The museum features permanent and temporary exhibitions, a shop dedicated to all things diamond-related, and offers its unique Diamond Polishing Show every day.

I had read before we went that the diamond polishing demonstration is held daily at 1230 and to make sure you are there at 1215. Having read this we went at 1215. We had a look round the museum, it is small and you wouldn't spend a long time in there. We really enjoyed the demo. The man doing it did so in 3 languages and was very informative. We had a city card so used that, not sure we would have paid full price for it.

Very interesting history of the diamond industry from its commencement in Bruges around 1400 to the present day - a good history lesson very well displayed and explained. The diamond polishing and cutting demonstration lasted half an hour - excellent presentation and involved the audience - made us realise how much time and effort it takes to produce the diamond you see in the shops. Presentation in English, French, Dutch and German - and it wouldn't surprise me if the presenter had a few more languages up his sleeve.

The best thing about this museum was the shops on the way to it! It was only 2 rooms, you learnt a little of the history, not much even the Receptionist was bored! 15 minutes for the visit, not worth the entry fee. There was only 1 demonstration at 12.30 which may have made it more fun, but we got there at 2.

I'm a diamond lover, but I didn't like this place , don't waste you time... few things only are interesting inside ,, if you have kids with you, they'll be bored.

Ok, it's not expensive, there are lots of things to read, some of the interactive displays that are meant to show you aspects of the diamond cutting, grading process were broken, there was a tacky track of diamonds are forever from James Bond running on a loop in the background, and that's it,,, like most tourism I've bruge, good idea just poorly executed,,, it's not expensive and will kill 30mins,,, but you could do that by having a another nice hot chocolate at De Proeverie that you probably walked past on the way to this,
