Owner description: The Diamond museum sheds a fascinating light on Bruges' gem connection. Diamonds were traded and polished here as far back as the 14th century. The museum shows how medieval Bruges was the first diamond city in the world, and why the industry later moved to Antwerp. The museum features permanent and temporary exhibitions, a shop dedicated to all things diamond-related, and offers its unique Diamond Polishing Show every day.

“Interesting”

It was very interesting to watch all the way to make diamond really clear and perfect shape. I think it was one of the most interesting museums.

“A bit disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

I was so looking forward to this museum but found it dull and lacklustre......displays were dull and uninteresting and most of the 'diamonds' were cubic zirconias. Not a place I would recommend when there is so much more here worth a visit.

“Worth a visit”

Worth a visit on a wet day in Brugge. Interesting and well presented, the demo is a great add on, definitely worth doing if you are paying the museum a visit.

“See the Demo”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

The museum was moderately interesting, but I particularly enjoyed the demonstration. There’s only one a day, so get there early to avoid disappointment. Ever wondered how they cut diamonds? Or how they get the angles of the faces just right? Go to the demo and find out.

“Diamond dust and historic lessons..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

If you go here, look outside first. Then you can see the size of the place. It's not a huge building and most of the downstairs is a shop and entry. The museum has interesting facts on placards (e.g. that Brugge was the first city with diamond polishing, before Antwerp and Amsterdam!), but you have to keep in mind: it is a museum, not a super exciting experience center. You come here to learn something, more than to be entertained. If you decide this is something for you: do pay the extra three euros or so for the demonstration. You get a piece of diamond dust for two full price adult tickets. It's the thought that counts, not the size of it. The demonstration takes about half an hour and is interesting, don't be offended by corny jokes (think of what it takes to be a demonstrator and do this every day year round...). Enjoy!
