Owner description: The 115 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges' artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo's world-famous Madonna and Child, countless paintings, 13th-century painted sepulchres and the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access

I never knew the importance of this church having been to Bruges before. We found that out by watching Monuments Men, and learned about the history behind the statue held within the church. Although under renovation, it is still worth the 2 Eur to see the Madonna and Child, considering a can of coke will cost more. And all monies collected go towards the renovation costs. Most of the art hanging on the walls were covered to protect from the dust, so apart from the statue and the architecture, there is not much else to see, which gives me an excuse to revisit in the near future. Parking is easy and very affordable, and there are lots of places to eat in the nearby Market Square.

I absolutely love any and all of Michelangelo's sculpting so seeing his only work to be commissioned to leave Italy is pretty neat in and of itself. Couple that with it being a beautiful example of his work and it is a perfect place to visit. The church itself is also quite pretty and I was surprised to find myself wandering around and seeing many of the historical pieces of the church and not just fixating on the sculpture.

There's a sculpture by Michelangelo in this beautiful church. Any opportunity you have to see a sculpture by him- please do so. If you know what you are looking at, it will take your breath away. It's beautiful. Yes the church was under renovations but I still got to see a Michelangelo I had never seen before- for $2 euros. Beers are $4 euros!!! This is probably the most important piece of art in Brugge.

This really is a very nice church. With it's 122m high tower it's one of the talest brick towers in Europe.
But, unfortunately there are renovations happening right now (April 2014). So everything is wrapped to protect against dust and/or other harmful things for the artworks.
The only thing that is still to see is the "Madonna with child" by Michelangelo. It's behind glass so you can see it.
With the renovations the entree-fee is only 2 Euro for the Michelangelo. But, the rest of the church is free to enter.
It will be nice, once the renovations are over...

We went in here as it was near our hotel. Had a city card so we got as much use out if it as we could. Was free to go in the church part anyway as most of it is covered up due to restoration work. Still an additional fee to see the statue and that is literally all that is in there. Again, our fee was covered by the city card. Would have been disappointed if had had to pay full price.
