Owner description: The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

“One crazy walk up those stairs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

Great views from the top but seems to be always crowded which makes the walk up the winding stairs somewhat difficult. I suggest going late in the afternoon when the lines seem to be shorter.

“Fantastic view - but hard work”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

The best way to view the city, wonderful views and great to see the bells and the inside of an impressive belfry a good €8 spent, but the 366 steps vary from wooden to worn away stone, to almost a ladder at the end.

They do not stress how hard a trek it is, and coming down is far harder if you have any problems at all.

Fit and healthy a must, otherwise think twice

when you reach the top of the tower-, and there a lot a steps(!) there are some absolutely stunning views, thought we would only be staying on night in Bruges before going to Calais but decided that we would have to stay another few nights

“Not easy, but definitely worth the effort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2014

The stairway to get to the top is 366 steps, very steep, spiral, and very narrow. There is a rope to hold on to if you need help. There are also some exhibits and some levels between the bottom and top to stop and rest. The views from the top are beautiful, and its worth it if you can do it!

“Not for the faint hearted”

Was worth the wait and the E8, though sad it was overcast and wet and windy at the top so the views were not great.
