Owner description: The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

“Go Early”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

We went before 10.00; when we finished, about an hour later, we noticed the line had quadrupled. The stairways are narrow, so you have to scrunch against the wall to let people pass, so the more people, the more stopping. Good bit of exercise, too. We walked non-stop to the top, then took our time coming down, reading at the exhibits.

“Cool climb”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

It was fun to climb up the belfry but long - 366 steps! I got a bit cramped at the top and there was not always something to hold on to, so I would not recommend it to anyone with even a small fear of heights like myself. The view was pretty cool and it was awesome to see and hear how the bell worked!

“Belfort - forget the climb, there is a clean, staffed accessible toilet !!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

Great clean, staffed accessible toilet in the Belfort courtyard.Staff helpful, friendly, facilities ultra clean. Cobbles outside a hard push in a wheelchair as slightly uneven but OK. Stairs make the grand halls inaccessible but the arch itself is spectacular.to wheel under. Carillon sounds lovely too :)
