Owner description: The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

The view of the city from Belfort was quite good, but walking up and down those stairs were just a nightmare - very narrow and steep.

Had fun climbing the 366steps up to the top of the Belfort. However, it does get a bit cramped at the top so not good for fatties! The 6ton bell and giant musical box along with the views made it all worthwhile.

Definitely worth the climb to the top of the bell tower, because even if clock mechanisms aren't your thing the views from up there across the whole city are great. You can see out as far as Zeebrugge and the windmills alongside the river. It can be pretty chilly up there in the rain in April but I'm sure it would be wow in Summer. We just managed to take photos before we got hailed on.

The Belfy allows views around all of Bruges from a height of 83m above the city. There are 366 steps to the top but the view is well worth the climb.

Time yur visit as there is a limit of 70 people in the tower at any time. At 11.00 the queue on a Sunday morning took an hour to reach the ticket office. When we came out of Belfry an hour later there was no queue.

On the way up there are several stopping points to view the history of the tower and to view the drum that works the carillon that plays a different tune every 15 minutes.

At the top there is a panoramic 360 degree view. Spend as long as you wish taking photographs and spotting the sights from above.

Haven't been to Brugge for awhile. Never been up the tower before, so went up this time. It's a healthy climb but the view is worth the effort. I was able to see in all directions and re-orient myself with the town below. Now I knew what I wanted to see and which direction to go. Note: that it is a popular tourist sight and there may be a long wait, so try to do this on a weekday before noon, when schools are not on holiday.
