I'm not entirely sure what people expect from one of the cheapest and oldest hotels in the city!!!!! I booked this hotel, having read reviews here, and having visited the hotel website, knowing full well in advance that i would be staying in a very old building, that would be bound to be suffering a little from old age and be a bit rough around the edges.

The staff were very friendly on arrival, and personally showed us to our room (rm10). The cleanliness of the room was not 100%, but it was clean enough, to a good enough standard (give the chambermaid a break - she looks about 100 years old!). The room was very spacious, and had a large bathroom. There was however a problem - on the first morning i awoke to find it 'raining' on me. The shower in the room above was leaking onto our bed. This was reported to the staff, who promptly moved us, and apologised.
No tea/coffee facilities in the room - however, there is a shop on the corner of the square which kept my caffine requirements met with a large bottle of cola!
The food down in the restaurant is expensive, over expensive for the rest of the markt, but very good none-the-less.
I noted one reviewer complaining about the cost of a coffee, yes it's a pain that you have to buy it and not able to make one in your room. However, another cafe on the square charges 8euro for a coffee, so i wouldn't complain too much about Centrals prices!

If you want to spend 200 euro a night on a luxury hotel, and a 5 minute walk away from the Markt then book the crownplaza or bestwestern. If you want to be directly on the markt, in one of the oldest (and maybe quirkiest) buildings in the city, AND spend 150 euro for 2 nights - then Cafe Central is the place for you!!!

It is totally stunning to walk out of the Central each morning and be greeted by the wonderful Markt!!

Many other things to recommend in Brugge - a horsedrawn carriage ride is well worth the money.
Cambrinus - Go there - just go there!! 150 meters to the right of Central. 400 beers available, and very good food too!!
Food example: Cafe Central - Raviolli 20euro. Cambrinus - Ribeye/salad/chips/ 20euro.

I drove to Brugge and parked my car in the car park next to the central train station. The parking for 2 1/2 days came to 5euro!!!!! A taxi from the car park to the hotel is approx 7euro.

We stopped here after looking at their website big mistake don't be fooled by the pictures the rooms bear no resemblence. No drinks making facilities, no tv,hot water takes up to 5mins to come through.
Food in the restaurant is ok and price well at 14 euros for 3 courses but they sure make up for that with the drinks 6 euros for a cola and 5 euros for a coffee no wonder no kettle in the room
Certainly won't be going again and would not recommend to anybody.

We went to the Hotel Central retaurant. Nice view, on the main square.
We ordered lunch, a menu was advertised at a very interesting price (14€/person)
There was no price for the drinks on the menu.
- the waiting time was very long
- they pretended they didn't have any longer an item on the menu to cover up the fact they served the wrong dish (unfortunately for them another waiter was passing by with serving that dish to another table)
- The beers turned out to cost between 8 and 9 € each - this lead to a "surprise" bill.
- the quality of food was "so and so"

avoid the restaurant! there are much better deals around.

We visit Bruges on a very regular basis having friends and family in the country. On this occasion we took our Brother and Sister in law with us for their first experience as we are always enthusing about Bruges. They were impressed with the city but not with Hotel Central. On arrival we found the first room they offered us to be dirty, there was even a large quantity of hair on the dresser as though someone had just emptied out a hair brush, why didn’t housekeeping pick up on this. Anyway we were moved to moderately better rooms but only moderately. After this experience I would never stay there again and would advise anyone to choose somewhere else. Considering the state of the place, we no longer eat at the central café which is part of the Hotel, I think you get our drift. sorry the review is late in coming, someone asked us recently what hotels to avoid in Bruges.

The Central is right on the Mark't Square. EXCELLENT food in the bistro (mussels and fries $6.50US). You are always in the middle of things, walking through the restaurant to go upstairs to your room. They give you two keys-1for the front door, the other for your room. You know you're in Belgium when you leave a 600 year old beer bar with 350 beers, unlock the bistro, walk past the bar and up the stairs to your room. We just felt as if we belonged there. Tell Bruno the maitre'd that my girlfriend and I named our beagle after him.
