Our travel agent knew this hotel and booked us into a suite in the annex across the canal from the reception and main office. The room itself was very nice and is one of the ones featured in the hotel's website. Canal boats continually paraded past the window and we joined the tour on one ourselves.
Bruges is called the Venice of the north and is absolutely one of the most beautiful cities we have ever visited. It is small, ringed and cut through with canals that are plied by water taxis. If you are going to visit - and you should - then hotel Die Swaene is right in the middle of everything and an easy walk to all you will want to see. The restaurant is very good so you do not have to go out to eat unless you just have to. The hotel staff is courteous and helpful and the hotel was easy to find in the rental car. We parked and walked everywhere the next three days it was so convenient.
Try it, you will like it too.

Room Tip: We chose a suite across the canal from the hotel entrance. The room is featured in the hotel website...

One day in advance we decided to drive to Bruges in Belgium. We checked hotels on Bookings.com, read the reviews and took a look at the pictures of Hotel Die Swaene. The pictures looked cute and the location seemed good. So we booked Hotel Die Swaene for one night.

We arrived. It was easy to find our way to the parking of Hotel Die Swaene. The walk to the hotel from the parking was less than a minute. We didn't have much luggage with us, but if we would have more we could've driven to the entrance of the hotel first, drop off the luggage and then park the car (the receptionist would've parked the car for us probably). The receptionist was very friendly and started to explain us where to go and suggested us places to visit in Bruges such as museums and expositions but also where we could go shopping. He also gave us a map of Bruges. After that he lead us through the hotel. Showed us all the beautifully decorated rooms like the Jugendstil-kinda lobby with a fireplace, the room where they serve breakfast in the mornings, the indoor swimming pool and sauna and eventually our room. He lit the lights for us and wished us a pleasant stay. He told us if we needed anything we could always come to see him and ask for help or information, mentioned his name and left the room. We felt like we were in a hotel fantasized by Roald Dahl himself.

The next day it would be our last. So we decided to leave our luggage at the reception and have a coffee downtown Bruges. After we had coffee we returned to the hotel to get our luggage and the car key, which we had left at the reception on the day of arrival. The same kind receptionist told us to wait a little and took off to get our car from the parking. Now that is service, we didn't expect that at all.

We had a super pleasant stay at Hotel Die Swaene. The receptionist and the personnel are very friendly and helpfull. The room we stayed in is very spacious and the bed (kingsize) was great to sleep in. We didn't suffer from traffic outside or noise in general at all. If we ever return to Bruges, we will return to this cute though luxurous hotel.

The only disappointment was... that nothing strange happened during our stay. Since strange things tend to happen in Roald Dahl's hotels. ;-)

Room Tip: We were in room 41. We think though that all rooms in this great hotel are spacious and cute.

We had a canal view room in the main reception building at Die Swaene. While the staff were friendly and accomodating we had a hard time getting good restaurant recommendations from them. The room decor was simple but not special. The room was fairly large and we parked our car for the entire stay in Bruges. Loved the city. A new European favorite. I am still dreaming about the Belgian waffles with chocolate & whip cream and of course the wonderful Belgian beers.

We found our way to the hotel car park using sat nav, but then spent 20 minutes trying to find the hotel reception, which we eventually discovered is actually on the other side of the canal (no directions given in the car park). Reception staff were friendly and helpful once we found it, and our room was clean and was furnished and decorated in keeping with the age and style of the property (19th century). The view of the canal was very pretty and tranquil, and the 'log fire' was very cheering and warming on a winter's night. However it was disappointing to be on the opposite side of the canal, ie without direct access to the restaurant, reception and guest bar/breakfast room etc.. We paid 285 euros for our room (no meals included - breakfast is an additional charge of 20 euros per person), and having expected a king bed, we were very disappointed to be allocated what looked like a king bed, and which had a kingsize headboard, but which was actually 2 single beds. Surely an investment in 'zip and link' beds is well overdue. I spent the majority of the night falling through the gap in the middle, and we were then woken early in the morning by housekeeping, who were obviously eager to turf us out so they could clean the room for the next guests. This is outrageous given the room rate, and they need to realise that hotels should be run for the benefit of the paying guests and not the hotel itself. We have spent the last 21 years raising our children and taking our dogs for early morning walks, and opportunities for us to enjoy a shared lie-in are few and far between. Housekeeping obviously knows when guests have checked out of their room, and clearly we had not. Whilst housekeeping have a schedule to keep to, and I have some sympathy for that, I object very strongly to the intrusion, especially given that checkout is noon, and the room should have been ours until then (NB there was not a 'Do not disturb' notice provided in the room). It's simply not good enough. I would not return to this hotel, and nor would I recommend it to others. Hotel de Tuillerieen and Hotel de Orangerie are located in the same area, so I would definitely try one of those on our next visit.

We've just spent New Year in Bruges, we stayed for 3 nights at the Die Swaene, it was in a great location by canel, and within easy walking distance to all attractions. On arrival at hotel, staff all very helpfull, especially Levan the main man there, he found us a Restaurant for New Years Eve, when all others were fully booked. The hotel is old 1648, with fabulous old touchs, our room 46 was very spacious, clean great canel view, it was a bit tired but as I said the building was old, would definetly reccommend it. We didn't manage breakfast as it was only on till 10.30 and we are late rises, we could of had room service till 11.00 but didn't. No tea and coffee facility in room, but did have a fridge and we did take our own kettle for morning tea!!

Room Tip: Has swimming pool and sauna so take costume

Once again, how does this Hotel get buried on page 2. The hotel is in the best location in Bruges. I had a huge room with a beautiful view of the canal The staff was more than helpful and the room was spacious and breathtaking. Pool sucked but it made the kids happy. Breakfast and restaurant were wonderful and the hotel is absolutely spectacular but not cheap. I found this hotel to be money well spent and I certainly would return.

We stayed in room 26 for two nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel staff were really helpful and kind, especially the old man in the reception. He was lovely and a bit quirky. The room's interior was a bit outdated, however the style fitted the old atmosphere present in Bruges. One annoying detail was the weak shower stream.

The breakfast (EUR 20) was generous but there was nearly no hot food which, considering the price, was a bit disappointing.
