“Give this one a miss”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Just come back from a two night stay at the Ensor. Very disappointed at the standard of cleanliness of the room, very dirty. Pillows very dirty. Toilet seat needed mending, Lino floor had not been swept or mopped, others peoples dirt was visible on the floor, which stuck to your feet and got took to bed!! Also the rooms were extremely basic, no TV, on a par with a budget hotel, but not at a budget price. The parking was a joke, very misleading, advertised at €7 per night but was charged €10 per night, space for one car only, in a back yard. Never again.

Room Tip: Certainly not room 8

The hotel is located on a quiet street that runs alongside a canal and is only a few minutes' walk from the main shopping area/market squares and sites. I found that it was best to use the nearby underground car park as I found parking very limited within the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The Hotel has rustic charm; I could imagine staying here during the middle of the last century. This is not a hotel for those seeking modern facilities, to add these would lessen the charm. The room we stayed overnight had a pleasant outlook facing the canal. I would best describe the room as comfortable, clean and adequate in keeping with a two star Hotel. The continental breakfast was satisfying and the staff helpful and courteous. I would stay at this Hotel again.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the Canal.

The room was decent size but the lighting was inadequate. The bathroom had no shelf or anywhere to put hygene articles and there were no hooks to keep your towels off the floor. Had to put my makeup on by the window because the lighting in the bathroom was so low. The shower was fine. The room decor had seen better days. The great thing about this hotel is the location. Very close to a main square, restaurants and sites, but on a quiet street.

We visted this hotel for three days in September 2012. The owner was delightful and very welcoming. He even changed our room so I could use the lift and not have to walk upstairs when he saw I was limping !!! The room we had (No 6) was large with dual aspect windows overlooking the canal. We even had an entrance hall/dressing room area as well as a large bathroom. The hotel is tired looking but quirky and could do with an injection of cash, but for a hotel so close to the centre, was very good value. Breakfast was delightful and filling, the usual continental style. WiFi was free but we could only use it in the dining room. The only thing I missed was a TV in the room, otherwise this was a good value hotel and well worth booking for a few days in Bruges

Room Tip: Don't expect the highest quality from this budget hotel. You get what you pay for but the owner...

this suited us perfectly BUT be warned, this is a very BASIC (and not so clean) hotel. If you are there for a few nights and you only use it for a place to sleep rather than chill out then it's ideal.
We are a same sex couple and there was not even a hint of a raised eyebrow so that's a good start. The room was very dusty and the bathroom/bathcupboard was mouldy - on the evening we came home with the windows shut we could smell it. Sheets were clean though.
No coffee or tea making facilities and, well, ill matched and dirty furniture BUT the view was priceless (if you are lucky to get one of the rooms at the front over looking one of the only canals that doesn't have boat trips. Willow in the breeze, ducks, swans, quiet. Sat on the window-ledge in the morning and soaked it up. We lucked out with room 3)
Have to say, you are really left alone here and you can just come and go. You get a key to the frontdoor so you can come and go at any hour.
Breakfast was a good. I'm veggie (just to make things awkward) but LOADS to choose from. (not cooked obviously)
nb. only found the one Ensor painting within the whole place!
Oh, and the sun terrace is worth a giggle!!! (just watch your footing)

Room Tip: room 3 for the view...

It has clearly been a while since this hotel has been renovated. Lots of doors don't work and getting in the lift was a worrying experience. The furniture and layout is a complete mismatch. The whole place could do with a deep clean too.
We had the only room with a balcony (Room 5). It was warm but the wifi didn't work particularly well and we could easily hear the people in the room next door. The doors to the balcony wouldn't shut properly so people walking past the window late at night could be clearly heard. There was also a temporary fairground set up at t'Zand.
On a positive note, it is close to the centre and it is supposedly has its own secure parking. This is the reason we chose the hotel but it turned out there weren't any spaces available in the car park so we had to park in the t'Zand multi-storey, a 5 minute walk away. The receptionist was helpful with my questions. Breakfast was surprisingly good, with warm pancakes available.

Room Tip: Room number 5 is the only one with a balcony overlooking the canal.

This hotel is located on a very quiet street bordering a very pretty canal. It is a short walk to all attractions. We had the only room with a balcony and the view was charming. That sums up the good points. The room was small and dreary. Heat did not seem to be controllable except by opening windows. The bathroom consisted of a small compartment with a toilet and a separate small compartment with a sink and stall shower. There was no shelf space in bathroom for toiletries and no towel bars or hooks. 2 drawers and a hanger bar in a plastic laminate wardrobe. No coffee in room or in lobby except at breakfast. No tv in room. Breakfast was minimal. Proprietors were not particularly cordial, just going through the motions. The whole place had an air of nobody cares much, and was generally shabby and run down. Next time I would pay a little more for a better experience.

Room Tip: Get balcony room.
