“Country Hotel in the City”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

We stayed in Hotel Egmond for two nights of our Honeymoon in November of 2013. Overall, this hotel is an excellent (really excellent) value for your money. It is closer to the train station and outskirts of town than to the historic center, but everything is an easy walk or bike ride. The gentleman at the desk (owner? general manager?) was so kind and helpful! Our room was extremely large. The breakfast was very good - lots of variety, however be sure to get there towards the beginning/middle, at the end things get rather picked over, and cleanup is (extremely) prompt.

Travelers should keep in mind that this is a historic building, which means that not everything is perfectly clean or up-to-date. That's part of the charm! That said, I think it is probably due for some updates - ones which maintain the historic charm of the estate, of course.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this lovely little hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of December. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk and shown to our room at the back of the hotel. It was small, but came with wardrobe space and a dressing table and was perfectly adequate. The bathroom was a small pod in the corner of the room, but again fine for our needs. There was no tea or coffee in the rooms, but a 24/7 help yourself service on the ground floor. A hairdryer also wasn't provided, but was available when asked for at reception.

Breakfast was buffet style, there seemed to be plenty to go around with regular top ups. The staff were friendly and welcoming and offered a quick whip round tour on a city centre map upon arrival.

Location was perfect, a 5 minute walk from the main station and a 5 minute walk from the central market and was set on a beautiful little street.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommended for a comfortable stay!

Excellent hotel in old part of town. Building is an old mansion in a park area and a little quirky, but rooms are warm and clean making an enjoyable stay. Very good breakfast and accommodating staff/owners. Good value for money for accommodation in this historic town. Highly recommended.

Loved this hotel!! Makes you feel like you're in the country but only a 5-10 minute walk to center of bruges. The rooms were huge in European standards with windows that look on gardens and churches. The breakfast was delicious and you wake up to the smell of freshly baked bread. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again!!

We were more than happy with our stay here. Ideally situated about a three minute walk from the train station (once you've found your bearings, we got lost on our way in!) and about ten minutes from Markt, the main square. Plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops right on the doorstep, plus De Halve Mann Brewery is about two minutes away. Directly beside lake Minnewater, it is in an idyllic setting slightly aside from the main hustle and bustle but handy to everything you could want.
Looks lovely from the outside and the lobby and breakfast area are beautifully characteristic. Breakfast was good: selection of cheeses and cold meats, cereal, fruit salad, bacon and eggs and a selection of bread and pastries plus your orange juice, tea and coffee. Only drawback was our room (10), I was expecting it to be individually decorated and characteristic following the rest of the decor but it was a little lack lustre. Very plain colour scheme and the sofa particularly was a little tired and threadbare looking. Don't get me wrong it was spacious and very comfortable! Overall a great hotel at a reasonable price, would stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Egmond. The location is perfect, particularly if you intend to take some day-trips away from Bruges by train as it is very close to the station as well as to the town. Also, as it's just on the edge of Minnewater park, it is a very peaceful and pleasant place to stay away from the hustle and bustle. The buffet breakfast is excellent, with a range of fresh pastries, bacon and eggs, tea, coffee, cereal and bread. The only drawback is that they don't open the breakfast room until 8:30, so if you have a very early start you may have to miss out. If you're lucky, on your way to breakfast you may also get a morning greeting from the owners' two very friendly spaniels, which was an enjoyable bonus for us!

The hotel is an old building and quite small (only 8 rooms), so all the rooms appear to be quite different depending on space etc. but our room was fairly spacious, although the bathroom was very small and the shower head could have done with an extra clean. This didn't detract from the overall good experience of the hotel though.

Overall this is a great family-run place which is a nice change from the more synthetic big hotel brands. Good value too.

this hotel has a great location -- a short walk from railway station (so long as you don't get lost, which we did!) and a short walk into the center of beautiful Bruges. The croissants at breakfast are really, really good.

room 7 is -- fine. the bed linens looked a bit tired and the furniture a bit bare bones, but really -- this isn't intended to be a luxury palace. the bathroom was very nice, although i did have a short, violent struggle with the shower hose the first morning.
