I was overjoyed at having discovered this romantic boutique type hotel some years ago. Tucked away in a quiet canalside location not far from the main square, this 15th Century building still has many original features. The rooms are exquisitely furnished with antiques, sumptuous huge beds, gas log fires, and each time I stay I choose a different room, as none are alike. Once I am here, I love to sit beside the fireplace in the lounge, with its huge barley twist supports, and select a nightcap from the extensive selection at one's disposal on the large silver tray in the centre of the room. I really look forward to having breakfast here, the panelled dining room is truly remarkable. I always have some champagne, and the kitchen will prepare practically anything you ask for, within reason. The staff are totally polite and helpful without being stuffy or formal, which I like very much. If you enjoy indulging and pampering yourself, then I recommend a night or two at the Orangerie, Bruges is a fabulous town to visit and discover. The hotel offers a limo service or they will take care of your car parking for you. Why not try high tea on the canalside terrace.....?
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- De Orangerie Hotel is located right on the most picturesque canal of medieval Bruges in the very heart of the city centre. This small XV century monastery of the Sisters Karthuizerinnen has been converted into a wonderful "boutique hotel", furnished with exclusive fabrics (Braquenié, Pierre Frey, Bennison, Ralph Lauren), antiques, and objets d'art. All of the 20 graciously proportioned bedrooms have been individually decorated with antiques, and offer all the modern comfort that the discerning traveller expects. In the elegant lounge along the canal, guests can relax by the open fire, in comfortable sofas while going through the available art books and international magazines, and enjoying a drink which is served round the clock. The winter garden lounge with its views on the “trompe l’oeil” Italian gardens is a haven of rest and tranquillity in fresh white and light-greyish colours. It is recommended to enjoy the typical English “Afternoon Tea” or an aperitif either on the waterfront terrace or in the cozy lounge. ... more less
