I stayed with my wife at the Junior suite canal view, celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary.
Room was romantic and unique. Service was excellent and breakfast was heaven.
The location of the hotel is very good.
S. Weiss.

Hubby and I stayed here for a nice little weekend break - just one night in September. Beautiful little hotel. Greeted by an amazing consierge/porter who took our bags, parked the car, and told us all about the hotel, its history and so on. Reception staff were excellent. We had a room upgrade and free champers as it was DH's birthday which was unexpected. The room was comfortable, filled with lovely antique furniture and quite large. The bed was a super king size and very snuggly. We did not do breakfast, as we were too full from the night before! But hotel very accomodating and brought coffee up to our room. Late check out was most appreciated. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just off the main square and very handy for shopping and site seeing. Nice little touches throughout the hotel and such a friendly welcome mean we will be back!

We stayed for a week Sept '11. Plus points - Location, everything a stone's throw distance. Public facilities - lovely lounge with real fire in the evenings, terrace by canal but a little spoilt by people waiting in line for boats about two feet away. Brealfast - wide choice including smoked salmon, cold meats, fresh fruits, choice of breads and champagne. Bar - wide choice of premium brands and large servings in lounge. Staff - Friendly and generally very helpful, drove car to garage and returned it when we left, carried all bags up and down. Minus points - Hard towels not 4 star and painful as I have excema. Shower hand held and no curtain. WiFi didn't work for two days and only when four people complained did they do anything about it.

Room Tip: Overlooking canal and on higher floors 218 was nice but only bathroom had view

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on our first trip to Bruges. We were welcomed by a porter of the old school - took our cases to the room, explained how everything worked and made recommendations for our stay. The receptionist was also very helpful and suggested two excellent restaurants where we could eat (the hotel restaurant only serves breakfast and afternoon tea). The room was smallish but very pleasant and contained all we needed, including some lovely Hermes toiletries and a kingsize bed. Breakfast was fresh and we were attentively served. Had coffee in the lounge one afternoon - very nice with a tray of biscuits and chocolate for 4 euros each. Bruges is lovely, would suggest first timers take the city bus tour in order to gain an overview and also a canal boat ride. The market square is touristy and probably not the best place to eat but it is worth sitting with a coffee or cold beer and watching the world go round for a short while - especially as the square contains some wonderful old buildings. Shopping is also good but at the moment I am afraid we Brits definitely notice the way our currency is devalued!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
De Orangerie Hotel is located right on the most picturesque canal of medieval Bruges in the very heart of the city centre. This small XV century monastery of the Sisters Karthuizerinnen has been converted into a wonderful "boutique hotel", furnished with exclusive fabrics (Braquenié, Pierre Frey, Bennison, Ralph Lauren), antiques, and objets d'art. All of the 20 graciously proportioned bedrooms have been individually decorated with antiques, and offer all the modern comfort that the discerning traveller expects. In the elegant lounge along the canal, guests can relax by the open fire, in comfortable sofas while going through the available art books and international magazines, and enjoying a drink which is served round the clock. The winter garden lounge with its views on the “trompe l’oeil” Italian gardens is a haven of rest and tranquillity in fresh white and light-greyish colours. It is recommended to enjoy the typical English “Afternoon Tea” or an aperitif either on the waterfront terrace or in the cozy lounge. ... more   less
