“Great dining experience!”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Had the cheese fondue, it was amazing and was served with a big basket of homemade brown bread and a large platter of fruit, meat, and cheese. It was so good we could not stop eating. They have a nice little fireplace in the center for ambience and the dining area is cleanly and brightly decorated. I will come here whenever I visit Brugge.

“The worst cheese fondue ever (if it was a cheese fondue at all)”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

I love Cheese fondues, my favourite places for fondue are Gasthaus Eichler in Winter Park Colorado and Petje Pek in Brugge. Unfortunately we only had a couple of hours to stop off in Brugge on our way from Brussels to Calais and found Petje Pek closed that lunchtime. A quick scout around found De Bourgandier a short distance away offering a selection of different fondues.

The restaurant itself is very pleasant with a nice open fire that provides warmth and a focal point on a cold winter day. Unfortunately that's where the good news ended. We opted for a cheese fondue which came with cold meats and a small salad. When the accompaniments came cold meats covered the salad and while the waitress offered to take the meat off for a vegetarian they didn't offer to replace the salad.

When the fondue arrived it looked like oil or lard with herbs and some sauce mixed in. It certainly didn't look or taste like it had any cheese and had none of the properties of cheese - either when it was hot or after it cooled. The waitress assured us it contained Emmental and Parmesan but I am far from convinced. The only thing it tasted of was the basil. To accompany that we were initially offered 6 slices of thin French stick or 3 each. We couldn't believe that they thought this was enough for 1 let alone 2 people.

I really don't like giving such bad reviews but this is probably the worst meal I've had anywhere and at approx €30 each an expensive mistake.

My colleague described it as "appalling".

Please note that we only tried the Cheese Fondue and other dishes may be ok.

“One of the worst meals ever - avoid at all costs!”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

I love cheese & cheese fondue, so this was a natural choice for us. Boy was that a mistake - the whole meal was one of the worst I've ever experienced.
The cheese fondue for 2 was expensive €56 (!!!) and tasted like the most boring cheese had been used and was devoid of any flavour. They provided only a tiny bit of bread and we had to keep asking for the basket to be topped up 3 times! The waitress was terrible. Admittedly she was struggling on her own but how hard it it to grab a basket of bread and bring it within 5 minutes? We ordered wine and she brought the wrong bottle and opened and poured it before we'd noticed. Then we were told that the one we wanted wasn't available (suspicious!) and felt pressured into accepting the one already opened.
Other small things were that the table wasn't properly cleaned, service was generally dismal and in paying the bill I had to deal with the smoky breath of the waitress in my face.
Avoid at all costs if you have any sense of value or love of cheese or fondue.
Plenty of much better alternatives for less money in Bruges.

“Highly Recomended”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Myself and my fiancee had 3 lovely courses with a bottle of wine. Everything was exceptionaly well cooked and presented. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. As for the price, it was no more expensive than any other place in Bruges. We enjoyed evey mouthfull and will be eating there again when we go back in June 2013. Highly recomended.

“Great fondue!”
Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

Four of us went to celebrate a 40th birthday and we had a really good night. The service was a little slow at first, but we had been warned that they were very busy. But after that we had no complaints and really enjoyed the meat fondue, it was fun and also tasty. They bought extra fries for no cost and offered extra meat as well. A really good night.
