well below the standard we expected and never should be rated as a three star hotel, the whole hotel needs a complete revamp throughout, rooms are far too small and in need of a complete redecoration.Carpets were stained, shower hanging off the wall ,no spray more like a hose pipe!,TV had no English programmes, and although well situated area is rather seedy. On the plus side clean sheets, good towels changed daily and plenty of hot water with a very friendly staff.Nearby is an excellent tArgentinian steakhouse good value and serve most dishes beside steak.Loved Bruges, especially if you like chocolate and beer, there in abundance, easy city to walk round and places of interest such as cathedral and churches all close together.

We were a party of 7, and we have many holidays together, sadly this hotel was not as good as we expected. Rooms poor, carpets dirty, lifts rickety, breakfasts mediocre. Staff very good, BUT owner should redo hotel.

Room Tip: None of our rooms were very good, one room very small and one on3rd floor was dreadful, ceiling beam...

We had a good time in Bruges. Hans Memling served a great breakfast, the room was large, clean and the bed was comfy. The location was incredibly convenient, but, we didn't get a great night sleep as a result. Late night revellers and early starting workmen otherwise spoilt a great nights sleep. But I'd recommend, just take ear plugs.

Booked via an agent who made an error leaving us with a room with no bed for child. Staff at hotel could not be more helpful in finding an alternative room. Hotel very clean and homely.
Excellent buffet breakfast and no night club noise as reported from others

We stayed here for one night in February. The hotel was cheaper than most neighbouring hotels and seeing as we were there to sightsee and would be out all day, we decided to book it.

On checking into the hotel, we were directed to our room on the top floor. The skylight did not close properly, which was a serious issue considering the fact that it was below zero outside and snowing. The receptionist seemed to double as the maintenance person for the hotel but unfortunately was unable to fix the problem. My husband managed to bang it shut but we could still feel a slight breeze in the room.

On pulling back the bedsheets, we were dismayed to find that the sheets had three holes in them and worse than this, the quilt was badly soiled. Following a further trip to reception, the lone receptionist again sorted the problem for us! the room is general was small and poky and in serious need of redecoration.

The hotel, on the upside is very near the main square. The downside of this is that we were kept awake by local revellers returning from nightclubs at 3.00a.m. in the morning.

Overall, the location is good but other than that, there is not much else I can say to recommend this hotel

We just returned today from a trip to Bruges, staying at The Hans Memling Hotel.
Whilst the owner and staff were very pleasant, the room (091) was anything but.
It was small as is often the case with city hotels in say Paris for instance. Our room here was very tired and ill equipped, the bathroom was of a passable quality. The big problem however was the unremitting smell of sewage which seemed to emanate not from the bathroom as you might expect but from the bedroom. The carpets were in need of cleaning or, better, replacement.
Housekeeping were well aware of the smell because they liberally sprayed deodorant after each visit. I can understand that other visitors might well have had a better experience , I am sure that other rooms might not be so abjectly dismal and smelly. Bruges however shone out even with very cold weather, we stayed out as much as possible to avoid the room.
I must repeat that the people involved were all charming. If you intend to visit, avoid room 091 at least.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 091

I stayed here for 2 nights with my girlfriend and we were very pleased with the hotel. When we got there our room was in the ground floor and when I opened the curtains and saw the, so often mentioned in other reviews, disco La Bodega I thought we were heading for 2 long nights. Couldn't be more wrong though! Maybe we were lucky and the 2 nights we stayed there the noise wasn't much but we both slept pretty well without waking up because of some eventual noise from the street.

The room was quite big, you have more than enough space to put your luggage and still walk around the room without any problems. The bathroom was nice and even though the floor gets all wet when you take a shower that really doesn't bother me that much.

The hotel is really close to the Markt (2/3mins walk) so you are really in a perfect location to explore the city. The breakfast was also very nice (croissants, pain au chocolat, toast, ham, cheese, cereals...) and it was served in a nice, big room.

The people from the all hotel were also very nice and cooperative since we only got there after midnight. Because of that, they gave us the entrance code to the back door and left our room key in an envelope where they said they would put it.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again especially considering its price compared with some others in Bruges
