The world agrees on the beauty and wonder, the vitality and greatness of Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Prague, London, Istanbul or New York among some others. The history and architecture, the sights and sounds of these world cities are beyond comparison yet there are gems waiting to be experienced and Bruges, Belgium is one of them. It is a medieval city that captures the imagination with its cobblestone streets, handsome cabs, cafes surrounding the Market square, churches and old buildings wherever you go. The sweet aroma of chocolate and Belgian waffles or beer and the clicking sounds of horses parading the narrow streets, the lampposts glaring in the evenings, the outdoor cafes and the canals that snake their way through the inner city make it a charming and romantic spectacle that makes you feel as if you have wandered back into time. Have lunch or cake, waffles or coffee in any of the delightful small restaurants of which some have fireplaces.

There are other factors to consider such as how expensive Belgium is in terms of food or hotels but if you want to venture back to a time when the beauty of a cities’ character captivates, makes you feel as if you are living another age and can thrive in great weather as easily as in rain or snow then you know you are experiencing the emotion of a great place to be. Be wise in your choices of where to eat and stay but if you want a romantic destination let Bruges be on your list for 2-4 days and you will not regret it. The Best Western Acacia is ideally located to the Market, shopping and the heart of the city. It has a fireplace breakfast room with a sauna and small swimming pool and is reasonably priced, clean and a good bet.

We stayed in the hotel at the end of October 12 for 3 days. Excellent position, clean, big room, friendly staff and parrot. Pool looked good but we did not use any of the facilities as we eat out and our deal excluded breakfast.
Would happily stay again.

Acacia is a really well located hotel just a short distance away from the central Markt square. It was clean and well presented if a little dated.

Breakfast was excellent and included champagne if you wanted.

We didn't use the pool as we kept ourselves busy enough but nice to know it was there and would have used if our stay was any longer than the 3 days we had in Bruges.

Also a complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate machine in the communal areas meant we didn't go thirsty.

Oh and there is a parrot in reception called coco. He talks and everything. Worth staying here just for that.

We stayed at the Acacia for one night during a recent sightseeing trip to Bruges, going on to Ypres after. The hotel enjoys a great location very near the main square, handy for restaurants and the main shopping area.
It is a comfortable, clean hotel with friendly staff, although the bar is staffed by the receptionist during the evening, leading to a delay in getting a drink! There is also no draught beer here.
Having a car park is a big plus, and we would certainly consider staying again should we return as it was good value.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago. Took my wife away for her birthday. Lovely little hotel. Crazy Parrot in the doorway. Hotel was clean and the rooms were surprisingly spacious. Didn't have breakfast as we like to try out new places each day. Bruges was fantastic and very romantic. Proof in the pudding...my wife is now expecting!

We had a lovely stay - the blonde receptionist was extremely helpful and pleasant. The parrot wouldn't talk to me though.

Hotel is in excellent positition, just a few minutes' walk away from the city centre. Our bedroom was spacious and quiet, with separate bathroom and wc. The bed was large and comfortable, and the curtains had blackout linings which kept the room dark and ensured a good night's sleep. The choice at breakfast was extensive. Overnight parking was secure, in an underground garage, well worth the extra 15 euros a night. Just one warning (nothing to do with the hotel) - we found out too late that most of the city's museums are shut on Mondays. We would gladly stay in Hotel Acacia again.
