We tried this based on a Frommer's recommendation. Turnoed out to be a mistake. A hint should have been that it was pretty empty (but then again, we were eating early). They sat our party of three right on top of 2 other couples in an otherwise relatively empty restaurant. We hate that. The selection and quality of the food was just OK and not enough of either to justify the price - which was probably moderate by city standards. Oe of us had the tasing menu and the others had fish and beef. All were OK, but nothing special whatsoever. Te service was friendly and observant. THey just need to step the food up a notch for the price.

...ultimately, a little disappointing.
The ambiance of the place is excellent, and I particularly loved the modern take on renaissance art along one wall. Our waitress was a little aloof, though she gradually became more friendly, mainly after we tried to engage her in conversation. We had the six-course taster menu, which we would have expected to be made up of the six items that the chef thought were his best. Make no mistake - some of the courses were outstanding, really wonderful. But others - the balance of flavours was not quite right, with one ingredient or other leaving a slightly heavy aftertaste.
The pacing of the meal was also slightly uneven. With so many (and, it must be said, fairly substantial) courses, sufficient time between courses is really important.
Given the cost of the meal, I would have expected better.

We ate at the De Florentijnen while on a weekend break in Bruges Feb 2012. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel (and for very good reason). The service was very professional and English was not a problem. They provide a trio of small appetizers for free and they were exceptionally good and well presented. I ordered the risotto with scallops and was not disappointed - both were cooked perfectly. My husband was equally happy with his grilled sole. We ordered the "ggoey brownie" for dessert and it was fantastic. It is not like a traditional American brownie but was instead a molten chocolate cake with rich flowing decadet chocolate spilling out on the first bite. Overall, great high end restuarant!

Really good food, steak was beautiful, so was cod. Nice starter on house. Nice layout.

Only complainy was 7.50 fot bottle of water but this seems standard in bruges.

Coffee came with pretty much full desert.

Really nicr restaurant but is pricey.
